hi Atanu,

yes Bus service is available from NJP to Gangtok. You take an Autorickshaw from NJP Station and ask the driver to drop u in Sikkim State Transport Bus Depo. But I would advise u to avail a Share Jeep (10 heads). That will be faster. It will take around 4hrs maybe.

Good Luck

i haven't used Bus service at all. As i availed Jeep service in 2005 Oct. it was around 100 bucks per head. Now too it will somewhere that. and ofcourse Bus fare must be less than that.

Hey ! Just keep 5000 bucks per head for the whole Gangtok trip with 3-4 persons sharing accomodation and transportation.

I will advise u not to worry about ur expenditure. Its worth in Sikkim Tour. U will get more than u spend.....and I bet it...
Money cant give u that divine and serene satisfaction of mind.
ha....ha....ha ! Enjoy
Have a good time. Just get moving....buddy

Just leaving another note for the international reader that in India, a "buck" means a Rupee. Lest another few have a heart attack

Siliguri-Gangtoak share jeep fare is Rs. 125 (as in June 2007). We were five adults and booked six seats - beside the driver and the bench seat in the middle, and travelled comfortably. Otherwise, four persons have to sit in the middle. The driver often takes another one uptil Rangpo from Siliguri. Talk about it also. Avoid the back seats.

We took a car from the airport to a drop in pelling and similarly from Pelling to gangtok..It was around 350- 400 for the entire car .It must be a bit cheaper from the railway station . Accomo is also not very expensive ..Its worth the visit ..I would suggest to avoid buses and take a private vehicle and since you are a group, it will be worth it - also you can enjoy teesta 's company

Carrying materials depends on place and time of visit.
Well if you are talking about North Sikkim in Jan, then I must say it would be brutally cold enough to freeze you...ha ha !
The temperature will be under "ZERO" coz it will be snowy new year there !

Dont worry. Just dont forget to carry a good quality Windcheater.
woolen garments are not that useful. Its good inside but you got to stop the biting cold wind. For that you always have to have a good Windcheater. or a good feather jacket or best is a hollowfill jacket for extreme cold....!!

always wear a Gloves (leather one is good) and dont forget to carry sunglasses. This is to avoid snow reflection and blindness.
Always carry very common medicines...

i think these are important...of them all.
