Short 2-3 day trek in West Sikkim

Hi
I'll be visiting Sikkim in late november and I'm trying to work out how much time to allow there. I would like to do a short, low altitude trek around the Pelling area, preferably 2-3 days. I'm not very fit but I enjoy walking in the mountains. Walking long distances is fine as long as there isn't too much steep uphill climbing. I'm pretty terrified of heights can't do scree slopes/ climbing up rock faces! If possible I'd like to do it independently rather than through a tour company.

So my questions are:

1) Are there worthwhile treks you can do in this area for 2-3 days?

2) Can anyone give me details - where, approx distance/ length of time trekking per day, where do you stay overnight, difficulty level, getting there etc? I'd really like to hear from someone who's done such a trek recently. Or are there any useful websites you can point me to?

3) How long should I allow for this plus travelling time and any necessary stops along the way, if I start in Darjeeling and finish in Kolkata?

Any replies very much appreciated!

I have stayed in Pelling but did not trek. However, the walk to the two monasteries around in itself was quite pleasant. And I think Yuksom is near by. Why don't you search the forum once to see if the information is already there?

You can do a two day trek from Pelling to Yuksom. On the first day walk from Pelling to Khechepeolri lake which would take you around 4-5 hours. That night you can halt at the trekkers hut near the lake. On the next day proceed towards Yuksom which again is a 4-5 hour walk. The route isn't marked as such but locals know about it so you can always ask them for directions.
I did this route two years back and it was pretty enjoyable.
