Hello,

How can one find the share jeeps/taxi for Changu/BabaMandir trip? Does one need to find them at the taxistand? How the permits for the same can be arrange, if one is to opt for shared jeeps/vehicles.

The current rate, which i am getting from the travel agents for Tsango & Baba Mandir by exclusive Maxx vehicle is 3000Rs approx. Is it too much or just because of the season time?

Please help.

Regards,

You can go to the bus stand or the taxi stand at M G Marg in Gangtok. Also if you talk to your hotel reception and they will happily arrange one for you.

Nowadays, an exclusive vehicle for Tsomgo Lake + Baba Mandir costs around Rs. 3000/- so I don't think the travel agent is misleading you. Note that if you include Nathu La in it, the cost is likely to be much higher. To reduce expenses you can opt for a shared ride.
Two roads diverged in a wood and I I took the one less traveled by.

Hi!
We returned from Sikkim Trip Yday and covered Nathula Pass, baba mandir & Changu lake. Nathula was included in my total tour package which cost me Rs. 9000.
North sikkim - Rs.6000 (On shared basis for 2 person)
Gangtok Local sightseeing + Nathula, Baba Mandir & Changu lake - Rs.3000 (Rs.1500 per person). Natula was on shared basis and Gangtok local was on exclusive cab.
The permits are issued to registered Tour operators only and you need to route the same thru them. Please carry ID + Passport photo. The permits are applied atleast 2 days in advance.
The taxistand is located at Church Road (Its the same where you get cabs for Pelling & west sikkim). The cabs halt at Vajra Taxi stand to collect the pass and move on to Nathula. Nathula is closed on Sunday, mon & tue

No snow at Changu lake. I dont think that you ever get snow there. You can expect snow at Zero point but since i cldn't visit Zero point so can't comment. However, locals mentioned that there is no snow at Zero point as of now and shld start by Nov. Katao is closed and you cant go there.
Please make sure that you take an exclusive cab to visit Zero point as I missed out on going to Zero Point in a shared cab. The fellow passengers backed out at the last moment... :-(
If you are looking for scenic beauty, then you wld surely enjoy Yumthang Valley. Dunno if you plan to go there. I found some snow while going to Gurudongamar lake. Just a bit types

Hi Tarun,
Can you please tell me which travel agent you made the Chhangu Nathula baba mandir trip? and how much they charge per person on share basis? also whats the cost for Gangtok sightseeing trips , and what points they cover?
We are only 2 (me and my wife), so booking a whole car will be expensive. We will arrive Gangtok on 2nd Nov afternoon(Darjeeling mail 8AM NJP), and will stay there till 4th morning. Please suggest what we should see within this short span
If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun

Hi! Amit,

U really have a very short trip. You shd reach Gangtok by 1:30pm. Check in at hotel, relaxing, having lunch etc. will pull you to 5pm. I guess all you can do is local shopping & market visit at MG Marg & Lal bazar to purchase souviniers, cherry chillies pickle, eat sikkim delicacies etc.

We had paid Rs.3,000 for Gangtok local sightseeing (Exclusive cab) & Nathula trip (In shared trip). We booked thru an agent. You can call Basant on 09609801535 / 09233555456

If you want to cover Nathula Border, then special permit is required, which is applied 1-2 days in advance and you need to submit photo & ID. I doubt if this can be done as you are reaching on 2nd and leaving on 4th. There is almost zero time to get the permits done. However, I guess you don't need permit if you just want to cover Changu Lake & Baba Mandir. Speak to Basant to check if he can help you. Changu lake is a wonderful place and you can take Yak riding there.
If you cant get thru this then book your trip for Gangtok local sightseeing & cover 11 points. Pasting an excerpt from one of my earlier posts for your reference. Marked in Bold are the places which you shld cover.
Rumtek Monastery – We skipped this monastery & visited Ranka monastery instead. This helped us save time and allowed us to cover Sikkim Zoological Park, which is too beautiful. I would advise not to cover many monasteries unless you really enjoy visiting religious places. Also, to note that most of the monasteries and not very big and lack splendor that you see in south East Asian monasteries, especially Bangkok.

Banjhakri waterfalls – Wonderful place. A must visit site.

Ropeway – At Rs.60 a ticket, you get a cable ride and a chance to see the city from the top.

Tibetology – I enjoyed this place but my wife got a bit bored. It is a place of historical importance and the museum in the Institute has one of the world's largest collected works and rare manuscripts. It also has antique paintings, statues, masks, and other religious works of Tibetan Art.

Do-Drul Chorten – A small monastery. Can be skipped

Directorate of handicraft – We could not visit this

Flower complex – Small serene place with good collection of flowers.

Enchey monastery – A monastery. Can be skipped if you have covered Rumtek or Ranka monastery

Ganesh tok – Beautiful Mandir dedicated to lord Ganesha perched on the Hill Top. Gives you a wonderful view of the mouintains.

Hanuman tok - Cldn’t cover it due to paucity of time. We also did not insist as we had seen Ganesh Tok

Tashi view points - The weather was foggy that day and hence nothing was visible from Tashi point. Would recommend that it be covered in the 1st half.

Zoological Park –
It was not part of the package but we asked the driver to take us to the zoo instead of Rumtek Monastery. A good wide spread place if you love being close to animals in their habitat.

Thanks a lot Tarun for all your detailed infos....

You paid Rs 3000 in total for Gangtok sightseeing and the Nathula... right? Can you give me an idea how much they charge only for the sightseeing (exclusive cab as well as on shared basis).

The sightseeing points that you wrote are all within 11 point trip? If yes please tell me the price.

Last time I went to Gangtok in 2001 we could arrange the Nathula trip the next day we arrive... Isn't there any chance this time? How much they normaly charge for Chhangu , Nathula, baba mandir on shared basis?

You made the trip very recently right ? I mean in Oct 2010.... because somebody in IM wrote that Nathula road is closed....

How is the weather now??? temperature???

Please reply asap as we are leaving today night only

Thans again
Amit

Looks like rates are varying too much here.

As I mentioned in other thread as well, we have just come back in last week of Oct and for Nathu la pass, we had rented exclusive Scorpio for INR 6000/- which includes INR 2500/- for permit.
