Seven Village Hills Resort, Namchi?

Hello everybody,

I am new to his forum but have gone through most of the threads and have found very useful information about sikkim. However I have not read much about Namchi here.. We are leaving for sikkim next week and couple of operators in Sikkim suggested us for one resort "Seven Village Hills Resort" at Namchi. Can anyone advise about it? It seems to be bit expensive but the operators said that every one they referred there are all very happy.. but we would like to know about some real experiences.

Couple of other small questions - 1. Is the trip to Nathu La pass advisable with small kid of 15 months? 2. Any first hand experiences with Hotel Sagorika in Gangtok?

Thanking you in advance,

Nilam

Dear nil73,

I am thinking of booking in Sagorika next month. If you stayed there, could you tell me how you found their service.

Sagorika in Gangtok, is a decent enough hotel it is quite near to MG Road stayed there in mid march 2010, fairly clean and good decent Indian food. All rooms do not have views, insist for the north and east facing ones.Service was very good and attentive , sometimes a little overbearing. Do not take taxis or travel from the travel desk it is better to make them on your own at the private taxi stand.Overall a very livable hotel.

Seven Village Hills Resort at Namchi...stayed there for one night for Rs 2600, nothing exceptional and definitely not worth the price. I shall not advise you to stay in Namchi,if you want a real countryside experience go to Rinchenpong, we stayed at Rinchenpong Village Resort in Kaluk. Really liked it very much , fantastic views, paid around Rs 1600 a night for double. The resort was fairly decent.

I dont think it is advisable to go to Nathu la with a very small child.
Have a very nice trip!!

Hi Travelbitten,

Yes, we had been stayed in Sagorika for 2 days. It is near M G Road, convenient and fairly ok. Room services, staff and food is ok. But if you are going with small kids, it is better to go for other better option. There is a good view of Gangtok city from the terrace but there is no view from any other room. My younger daughter was just 15 months old when we stayed there.

The hotel is on the sharp slope and down to the M G road. We used to take Rs.50 taxi from M G to the hotel. If you are with friend or a wife you can walk (if you are not tired!!) to the hotel.Arrange your tours from outside, don't book from travel desk.

Cheers,
Nilam

Hi Stephanij,

Thanks for your reply. We had been in Gangtok in April (2010). It would have been really helpful if I got this message before my trip.

You are right, Seven Village Hills Resort is not worth prise. We had been there for one night, payed Rs.4000!!! for the cottage. But our daughters enjoyed there a lot. ( 7 yrs and 16 months). They liked to walk on the small path, play on the ground, to see beautiful flowers and night view. We were the only customer in the whole Resort on that day. (April end 2010). They took 2 hrs to ready the food after prier notice. The food was ok.

It was very difficult to reach there. We had to climb about 1 km to reach the resort. They had shifted our luggage by a small horse. It was so small, I felt pity on him and we started climbing with our small kid. After the very tiring journey of 5 hrs from Pelling to Namchi, to climb like this was very frustrating. They were preparing the small way for a vehicle to reach the Resort. They must have finish the work by now. But our daughters liked the resort very much.

Cheers,

Nilam
