Practicalities in Sikkim

As an Australian about to go to Sikkim, I was wondering if any one knows is it easy to change Australian dollars in cash in Sikkim. I will be there in Dec/Jan.ANYADVICE ON WHAT TO WEAR? Are there distinctive Sikkim clothes to buy that would keep us warm. Do you have to go with another couple if you do a tour to Yumthang? We intend to get permit in Delhi. Does it take long and do you have to leave your passport at the office and come back to get it later. How much should a three wheeler cost to go from Karol Bagh to Sikkim House? Is the road to Yumthang often closed due to snow?Anyone else been there in winter who could tell me what its like. How much for a car from Gangtok to Darjeeling? I have to spend a day in Siliguri. Anyone know of any good cheap accomodation there?Any one know of a good hotel in Darjeeling. Bahut dhanyabad from jessy

Thumbs up Hmmmmm.......

Australian dollars in cash in Sikkim.
- No idea.

I will be there in Dec/Jan.ANYADVICE ON WHAT TO WEAR?
- Everything.

Are there distinctive Sikkim clothes to buy that would keep us warm.
- No Sikkim special but plz don’t forget thermal inners and heavy woolens. And yes one Sikkimise thing will definitely keep you warm. That is “Chhang” (the liquid Jacket you can say).

Do you have to go with another couple if you do a tour to Yumthang?
- Not necessarily but if you can manage it, you will be able to save a lot. But I don’t think Yumthang is possible during that time.

We intend to get permit in Delhi. Does it take long and do you have to leave your passport at the office and come back to get it later.
- No idea.

How much should a three wheeler cost to go from Karol Bagh to Sikkim House?
- No idea.

Is the road to Yumthang often closed due to snow?
- Yes.

How much for a car from Gangtok to Darjeeling?
- considering the timing, it should not be more than 200 per person (shared jeep).

I have to spend a day in Siliguri. Anyone know of any good cheap accomodation there?
- hotel Vinayak, Heritage (and there is another one just beside the Heritage – can’t remember the name but just beside.) was good. But Hotel Sabera at Sevok More is the perfect combination of cleanliness and economical.

Any one know of a good hotel in Darjeeling.
Please visit West Bengal and Sikkim section. You will find so many posts regarding this (seeking Darjeeling info and advice - just an exmpl) but I am not going to leave the opportunity to mention my favorite Darjeeling Tourist Lodge (WBTDC hotel) at Darjeeling.

Thanks Somnath for answering the questions that you could. You would have to live in Delhi to know some of the answers like Karol Bagh to Sikkim hose etc. Sad if Yumthang is not accessible- it looks like it would be great. Thanks again.
