permit for sikkim.?

Hello..
would a permit be necessary to go to Sikkim if we are non-resident Indians, US citizens and born in India (except 2 relatives who were born in USA) and plan on going with relatives who live in India and are Indian citizens?
If so, how/where can the permit be gotten?

Hi, I got my permit at Sikkim House in Delhi (very close to the american embassy) This was about four years ago and at that point if you did not have an indian passport you needed to get a permit. We had our permits checked a few times. You could call Sikkim House. They are very efficient there and very sweet, they even organised a driver for me as there was a transport strike on in Delhi. You will not be disappointed with Sikkim it is amazingly beautiful and the people are super friendly. It is so much calmer than the rest of India. Also Darjeeling is very much worth a visit on your way to Sikkim.

Sorry,
I have no idea! But I don't think it was that much. I think I got it on the same day, but I also think that I needed a passport photo too.
