Question Okhrey - Hilley - Versey

hi all,
i plan to visit Okhrey - Hilley - Versey in West Sikkim during the month of April with my family. It would be great if any one of you can help me to plan my tour.
There will be a child with us (my elder brother's 4 yr old kid), so I want to plan everything well in advance as it wont be a great idea to plan a trip with loopholes as we generally do.

I would like to know about the accomodations available in Okhrey & Versey, as these places would be where we'll be staying. Also what about the cost of accomodations in those places and the available food?
All other things I guess will be manageble as we are vivid travellers (except the kid)

Waiting for the reply. cheers.

hi, souvic23. welcome to indiamike.

This is the first I've come across an inquiry about those three places, with which i am unfamiliar. have you done a search of the sikkim sub-forum for related threads/posts? that might be a good place to start.

hopefully, some of the more experienced sikkim travelers will soon be along to offer some guidance.

again, welcome to indiamike.

thanks tacita.
yes i've done some searching activity in other sikkim related forums at indiamike and i'm not satisfied with the information i found there (it was toooo less to be specific)

there is a rhododendron sanctuary at versey, and the trek from hilley - versey crosses through the sanctuary. and april being the blooming season for rhododendrons, orchids, primulas, aconytes, foxgloves & bluebells u can understand that place is an unexplored valley of flowers. only the catch is at versey there is only one place for a night halt, and the care taker of that place remains disappeard most of the time
so u know!

Hi souvic23,
You've spoken about okhrey-hilley-varsey. Here's another link, this one on okhrey
http://www.telegraphindia.com/107090...ry_8264075.asp

Though Varsey is very beautiful in spring with the rhododendrons in bloom, I must tell you that you have to trek to reach the sanctuary. The road goes up to Hilley. From there it is a four km trek to the sanctuary. Through the sanctuary, you can trek to Uttarey and Dentam. Though the trek is supposed to be moderate, I don't know if you can do it with a child.
Okhrey falls on the road to Hilley from Jorethang. It's an upcoming destination.
As for amenities, the area (Okhrey-Hilley-Varsey) is in a secluded corner of West Sikkim and don't expect any fancy hotels etc. The best you'll get at Varsey is a trekker's hut which had a dormitory and one double bedded room... Okhrey too has very basic accommodation. Things will get better once you reach uttarey...
Now it's up to you to decide.

Hi

This is just for info..

I have been to Varsey this year in April. Which is supposed to be the best time to visit Varsey. The flower blooimg occurs once in every two-three years. Next year in April 2010 will be the best year to visit Varsey as told by the locals.

Take a train to NJP and then a sumo to Jorthang. At jorthang enquire at the sumo counters for vehicles to Hilley.

it will take 60 rs per person. get down at a lovely village called Okhrey where there is a single hotel.

The owner will help out in arranging sumo and guide for the 2 hour trek.

Better stay at Okhrey than Sombaria or Hilley.

The guide will take care of the rest
