Lovely destination.Do you have any idea on how to book Diki House in Bagora.Many thanks for your response.

The forest is richer than those near Darjeeling. If you have the energy, trek the 3 kilometres from Bagora to Dilaram. It should take about an hour.
There are many rewarding walks and trekking trails from Bagora, which is known as zero point. A short stroll will take you near the core area of Kurseong Air Force base, from where you can enjoy a view of the vast expanse of the Teesta. Head towards the Forest Rest House to enjoy a wide variety of Himalayan flora. The well-maintained flower garden, with its terraced greenhouses, is a sight to behold. Birdwatchers would also love the variety of feathers in the region.
Those who put up at Diki House, situated on a hillock, will have a bird's eye view of the entire settlement with the mighty Kanchenjunga for backdrop. If you have an appetite for adventure, walk down the dark jungle trail to Tiger Hill to watch the famous sunrise.One can plan a 12-km trek to Mongpu, too. lf you are staying more than a weekend in Bagora, consider a three-day forest trek from Kurseong to Kalijhora via Bagora, Namthing Pokhri (11 km from Bagora) and Latpanchar (15 km from Bagora).
Bagora is famous for its medicinal and herbal plants. In October-November, the trees are laden with oranges. The colour of the fruit blends with the jade green of the trees. Apart from taking long walks, there's not much to do but relax under the turquoise sky and enjoy the view of the icy mountains. Click or paint to capture nature's might and magnificence.

Hi Pradipta...As you are staying two nights in Uttarey..you must not miss the trek through Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary to Mainbus Waterfall... and ofcourse you will come across the Singshore bridge on the way to Uttarey in Dentam....and in Kaluk there are lots of places to see..including Rinchenpong and Reesum Monasteries at Rinchenpong..Poison Lake...British Bungalow..... and Rabindra Smriti Ban just beside the newly built Monastery.....Also the durga-kali temple at Kaluk etc...but Remember Kaluk is best for its view of Kanchenjungha... :-) :-)

Hi,Ha ha ha!! not a rocket, a Mahindra Max is enough to take you there.Katao is almost 14000 feet. You have to make a contract with the driver who will take you to Lachung. You need to leave for Katao early in the morning(~ 6.30 am). Remember, its a military area , and the driver needs to have an agreement(!!!!) with the militaries.
Anyways , talking of height Gurudongmar lake is at an altitude of ~18000 feet ,and is accessible by a car.

Yes very true, it very much depend on the how good the driver's contact with army. But whatever it is , if one get a chance to be in Katao, the top of Mt Katao and road toward it is , if not more , as beautiful as Yumthang.

The place is famous as the starting place for mountaineering expeditions and treks to higher Kanchenjunga ranges. – In Yuksom visit to Dubdi Monastery gompa with stunning views of the Kangchendzonga range, is followed by a visit to Tashiding, a picturesque gompa situated in a peaceful location between the Ratong and Rangit rivers on a hill top. Tashiding is second only to Pemayangtse in sacredness for the Nyingma sect. - Norbugang - Yuksom (I will advice to stay 1/2 nights in Yuksom, you will definitely like the place)
16/10 - Pelling/Yuksom - Uttarey - visit Mainbus Waterfall

I've a phone no for a nice car driver: Tarakendra Chetri, 09733077570, I called and booked him well advance, and he was there in NGP to receive us. He took us to all the places with smile, even twice to the same place if asked. He will not let you pay even for his meal. A great guy, helped us a lot. You can take my name (Arpan, went there in last December) for ref.

Your itenerary is perfect but you just try to book the room at Uttare and Kaluk.The time is peak season and both the place contains very less no of hotels moreover in Kaluk I donot think that you will get any hotel in that budget, just check out before going.
There is not much sight seeing places, only thing to enjoy the beauty of nature and snow peaks, in Rinchenpong you can visit Poison Lake, Reesum Monastry etc.You can visit Barmiok when travelling from Uttare to Kaluk.You can also visit Dentam Valley.
From Rinchenpong to NJP you can consider Rs 3000/- for a reserved car.

4. Tukla- A new destiantion on the way to Nathula pass, provides a greta view of Mt. Kanchenjunga.
5. Tsolamu lake(North Sikkim)- Beyond the Gurudongmar lake..the source of the Teesta.
6. Borong- Nestling among the shades of dense woods, provides good view of the Pandim peak.
These are few 'yet to be explored' destinations I know. If someone can add to the list..it will be a delight.

Hi All,Sikkim is a beautiful state in India. Its fast becoming a very popualr tourist destination, thanks to the exotic beauty it provides.....not only natural beauty, but the people too have beautiful hearts.!!!!
The most common destinations in Sikkim include Gangtok, Nathula pass,Ravangla,Pelling, and the Yumthang - Gurudongmar package. However, there are other locations in Sikkim , which are largely unexplored and have unparellal beauty.
Some of them are:
1. Singhik(North Sikkim)- For the wonderful view of Mt. Kanchenjunga. Govt. accomodation available.
2. Biksthang(West Sikkim)- Again, for the great Mt. K. A luxuru\ious resort provides a good accomodation.
3. Yangtey(West Sikkim)- Just 1 km from Geyzing, 10 km from pelling. Same view as Pelling minus the noise.
4. Tukla- A new destiantion on the way to Nathula pass, provides a greta view of Mt. Kanchenjunga.
5. Tsolamu lake(North Sikkim)- Beyond the Gurudongmar lake..the source of the Teesta.
6. Borong- Nestling among the shades of dense woods, provides good view of the Pandim peak.
These are few 'yet to be explored' destinations I know. If someone can add to the list..it will be a delight.

We've planned to visit North Sikkim during Spet 29 (leave sealdah) - 6 Oct (coming back to sealdah), 2011. But it seems that it's nearly impossible due to the recent eartquake...
Instead of cancelling the train tickets upto NJP, we're now planning to visit one of the folowing:
Hilley, Versey, Kaluk, Rinchempong, Borong
Plz can you provide me some detail refarding:
1. Places stil accessible (not / less affected) even after the quake
2. Possibilities of getting Hote; / Car bookings even 5/6 before the journey
3. A travel plan that could be possible in the no of days we've in hand
Plz also note that we're 6 people and all around 23-26 years of age.
Appreciate your inputs.
Plz also provide the booking details for these places if possible.

I'd be glad if I could truely help you, Sudipto! The updates on the earthquake that I have is exactly the same as you have (news papers, online sources and the earthquake thread). I don't think I am the right person to comment on any of your questions at this point of time. Neither do I want to give you hope, nor do I want to dishearten you. All I can say is - keep plan B ready. West Sikkim has been relatively unaffected...howveer, I don't have any first hand info on the current status post the quake there.

NORTH SIKKIM TOUR IN october last week
wE HAVE BOOKED A TOUR TO north sikkim IN LAST WEEK OF october- i would like to know as NH- 31 has been destroyed- will it be ok bythat time also how will be condition after quacke there? Is it ok to visit or need to change the route of trip??
