Else you can go to Gurudongmar lake in North Sikkim which is similar kind of lake as Kailash mansarovar and you can witness the cold desert and Tibetan Plateu .
So the itinerary may b
Day 1- Gangtok
Day 2- Lachen
Day 3- Gurudongmar lake and transfer to Lachung
Day 4- Yumthang valley, 0 point and back to Gangtok
Day 5- Transfer to Bagdogra.

The package of North Sikkim cost us Rs 22000 for 9 of us.

22k hummm
Thts nice ...
We have few frnds there who can take care of nathula ..
yeah thanks for the input . Will let them know in advance ...
and will keep gurudongmar lake in plan ....

once you see gurudongmar, one may not enjoy changu lake.
as regards nathula, recent tension between ind-sino could be reason for refusal of permit.
even othewerwise nathula(wed to sun) permits are to be obtained atleast 2-3 days in advance in peak season because of limited no. of vehicles allowed.

Not enough time

Looking at the other replies, and considering your time constraints, i would starongly advise you against going for both Gurudongmar and Yumthang. Go for either of the one. Since you will be reaching Gangtok on Thursday need to be back to Gangtok by Sunday...Gurudongmar+Yumthang in 2 days would be impossible. If you eventually decide for Yumthang, you can consider going to Katao from Lachung early morning (say around 5.30 am), return to Lachung by 8.00, have breakfast, and leave again for Yumthang by 8.30...visit Yunthang and (if time permits) Yumesamdong..reach Lachung back by 1.30 pm and leave for Gnagtok.

Sandy,

nathula pass can be visited on three specific days in a week. Check that out before leaving. also, i would recommend Gurudongmar lake even at the cost of Nathula pass. Lachen and Gurudongmar is beautiful.
But as Sagar said, you can not cover Yumthang, Gurudongmar in 2 days. So you have to spend your entire vacation in North Sikkim only.

Considering the fact that he would be reaching Gangtok on a Thursday afternoon, and will catch a flight from Bagdogra next Monday afternoon (which means that he will need to return back to Gangtok by Sunday evening), do you you think Gurudongmar+Yumthang (where is stresses of going to) is possible? Yes, the same situation minus Yumthang (only Gurudongmar) is indeed possible, but I dont think there even a remote possibility of doing both on a 2 day trip! There are two options cut out - either Yumthang/Kato/Yumesamdong or Gurudongmar..and only one can be done given the constraints of time!!

Well I think too much arguement is going on the tour plan. 4 days Sikkim tour is definitely hectic where ever you go. But 2 nights and 3 days Gurudongmar, Yumthang valley and Katao or 0 point can be covered (I have done it earlier). Yumthang valley has nothing to offer you except rhododrendron trees. You will not see flowers now for which it is known as valley of flowers. So well then I think only Yumthang valley is not that flattering this time of the year.

Smile north SIikkim

Sandy,

I think you should not miss Gurudongmar . Its worth to see . If you can change it a bit and make it a bit stretched (like last Crismas we covered),the itenery can be

Day 1 : Bagdogra to Gangtok .

Day 2 : Start early morning for lachung . It takes approx six hours to reach Lachen from Gangtok . Talk to driver and go to Yumthang at 2nd half . Ask driver to go to Lachen and you will reach there arond 7.30 - 8pm .

Day 3 : Go to Gurudongmar , on the way back , go to Katao . Come back and check out from the hotel and come back to Gangtok .

Day 4 : Visit Nathula , Baba mandir , Tukla n back .

Day 5 : Leave for Bagdogra in morning .

Itenary is so compact that you will find yourself smelling petrol all the time , but if you want to touch max places .......have to stretch .

Dear Cosmicconcert,
Well I do not think day 3 is at all possible in this itinerary.
Lachen to Gurudongmar to and fro is around 130kms
Lachen to Lachung= 45 kms approx.
Lachung to Katao to and fro= 65 kms approx
Lachung to Gangtok= 120 kms approx.

Is it possible to cover so much distance in North Sikkim in a day???

Question

Is it possible to visit Gurudongmar Lake towards November end. I was planning a trip from 21st Nov - 28th Nov and was wondering if North Sikkim would be accessible?

Thanks
-Jacob
