I'm planning a trip to Sikkim for 8 days at quite a short notice I guess (1 month) and I'm struggling to get my itinerary right. This is how I plan to go about:

Day 1: Reach NJP in the morning, head to Gangtok
Day 2: Nathu La & Tsongmo and a monastery if I can squeeze it in
Day 3&4: Lachen Lachung: I want to visit these by hook or crook:
  1. Gurudogmar
  2. Zero Point
  3. Yumthang
  4. Chopta
Day5: Head back, now here is where I could save a day. Go directly to Pelling from Lachung/Lachen OR head to Gangtok and spend the night and move to Pelling next day
Day 7: (or Day 6 if I don't have to come via Gangtok) Pelling: Rabdentse Ruins, Khelcheoplari lake & Shingore Lake
Day 8: Darjeeling and come back to NJP for the night train to Kolkata.

Help much needed & appreciated

As you are going solo you can't make it N Sikkim to Pelling same day........... You have to choose Gangtok for transit halt & public transport
.

Totaly confused how to explore the beautiful earth when one life is too short to complete my great India

PKanti,

Could you alsp tell me an approx expenditure for the Lachen Lachung trip from Gangtok? The tour operators I contacted are giving me costs like 10K to even 19.5K rupees!

Thanks much!

Lachen-Lachung

PLEASE HELP!

I called up a couple of tour operators and they say if I go solo it will be a big burn! Is it possible to find co-travllers on the spot and make the trip in a day or 2 on reaching Gangtok? Or should I give up all my hopes?

Nathu La & Tsogomo takes a full day. Also visit "Baba Mandir". IMHO, You can not visit Rumtek Monastry in the same day.So stay another day at Gangtok else Drop it. Nathula remain close for tourists for 2 days in a Week. Plan Accordingly.

These palces are worth visiting. Normal Itinerary :
Day 1 : gangtok to Lachen.
Day 2: Lachen - Gurudongmar - Lachung
Day 3: Lachung - Yumthang - Zero Point - arrive Gangtok in evening.
Please check if the Route to Gurudongmar lake be open during your visit. As you are going single, more likely, you have to follow this itinerary or pay a hefty amount to travel agent.

You should stay in Gangtok. Avail Share Jeep to Pelling.

. Gangtok to Pelling 1Day. Pelling Sight Seeing next day. After arriving Pelling go directly to local travel agents and book a seat in next day's Sight Seeing. BTW what is "Shingore Lake"? I never heard about this. Is it 'Singshore Bridge'?

You may drop Darjeeling or extend your days. If nice view of Kanchenzonga is your first preference, Pelling is the Better than Darjeeling.

Little Inputs that may help you.

Thank you so much! I'm planning to drop Darjeeling as much. I do not want to miss out on the Rabdentse ruins. Yes, I meant Singshore bridge (my bad!)

One big question - Is it possible to visit Lachen-Lachung without a tour operator? I'm reading trivia like these places can be visited through tour operators only who charge as much as 23k for a 2n 3d package. And we need to make permits 15 days in advance before the trip?

Can this trip be planned and sorted after arriving in Gangtok?

Thanks a lot

each and every tour operator gave me such crazy estimates! I'd lost all hopes! Can you tell me the operator you took with that budget? 'cos I now believe you can't go on your own.

Thanks!

Yes. I second PKanti's advice. But charges may be more (not that hefty amount) while including food & acco.
