Hi all,

I am planning to visit Gangtok around third week of April 2010. I am willing to know more about Nathula Pass. I came to know that one needs vehicle permit for that and there is limit on vehicles per day. I will be renting a vehicle there. I am seeing some old posts here, but I would like to see if there are any recent updates on same information. Same way I would like to know that in Sikkim are there any other places where I might need vehicle permits. Please reply, your information will be helpful.

You need to carry photographs and some sort of govt. identity card. The passes are generally arranged by the person who will arrange your rented vehicle at Gangtok. The process starts one day in advance. However the actual pass is only given in the morning of the travel to nathula

You are gonna travel in the peak time, and advance booking is advisable.

Nathula Pass

Dear All,

Gadhawal I would like to know about your trip to Nathula Pass. When have you planned to visit and can you let me know what all places in Sikkim you have planned to visit.

I recently read about Nathula Pass in this blog. I am from Chennai and I am planning to Visit this place for my Honeymoon. I would prefer June - August 2010.

Can anyone let me know:
Whether any hotels in Nathula Pass?
If not, which is the nearest Hotel and the Fare for a Double Room?

Some Undiscovered Places to visit in nearby Gangtok, where we can Visit and return back to Gangtok.

We like Cold Places much. Can someone let me know which is the Year around coldest place in Sikkim.

Can you advise me with the staying. Like whether we can actually stay in Gangtok for 4-5 days or can we stay in other spots where we visit.

Cost of private taxi or jeep (for us alone) to visit Nathula Pass from Gangtok.

Thanks in advance
Vinod

There is no Hotel in Nathula Pass. You will have to stay in Gangtok. Depart to Nathula in 8 AM around morning and come back from there till 3-4 PM. On way you will cover Tsamgo lake, Baba mandir and Nathula. I went last year in March and it costs me 650per head (Shared by 10 person) from Gongtok>Nathula>Gangtok Including all. You will need to carry 2 passport size photo along with ID card.

By the way I think June to August is the off peak season for Gangtok you will feel little warmer. The coldest season is December-January. You will get varius range of hotel in Gangtok from Rs. 200 to 5000 n more.

hi
i am planning to go to gangtok in the 1st week of june and a trip to chhangu lake and nathula from there. my group consists of 11 people (all adults). can anyone suggest the most economic transport to chhangu and nathula? i have heard a max of 8 people are allowed in a sumo. so how should we break up our group to make it economical? also are shared cabs an option? i would also like to know the fares and the weather in nathula in june
thank you

Nathula is open only for Indian visitiors on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturday and Sundays.
Travelling in June can be problem(at-times because of early monsoons) because of landslides. Rainfall and cloud covers including fog may also hamper the visibility. Monsoon period between June-sept in off-season in Sikkim because of these problems. Travelling becomes extremely tidious will long detours and and at times waiting for hours for road to be cleared.

Govt stops issuing permits whenever their is problem with road conditions. But you should not face these problems in first week of June. For 11 people hiring 2 exclucive vehicles will be more comfortable and not much expensive compared to shared taxi.
