Hi there,
My wife and I are planning for a motor bike (yamaha, RX135) trip in sikkim during Oct14 till Oct28th. I have a few questions. 1. I read that cars registered outside sikkim are not allowed in sikkim. Is it true with bikes too? 2. I couldn't read much in the internet about bike trips in Sikkim. Any suggested itineraries? Thanks, Nanda |

Ditched the idea of taking the bike from here as i couldn't find many good bike routes. May be, will hire one there for few days. Planning to spend a week in north sikkim and a week in Assam (Kaziranga NP) and also a day or two in Arunachal Pradesh (going there just for the helicopter ride from Gauhati to AP)

I know you have dropped the idea, but still here is the information I have. A friend of mine had gone to Sikkim this year on his motorcycle (Honda Unicorn Delhi registered) also I have read quite a few travel blogs of people who have been to Sikkim on their motorcycles. In case you are interested here is the link to my friend’s blog http://the-never-ending-road.blogspot.com/
Ps. If there are no good bike routes in Sikkim then there are no good bike route in Ladakh, Spiti, Tibet and Mongolia! |

I would have thought the main drawback with motorbiking in Sikkim is that much of the country can only be visited as part of a tour group, so you would be restricted to quite a small area in the south.

Thanks for the comments. (wrong choice of words when i mentioned sikkim doesn't have good bike routes). Spent 2 weeks in sikkim (without my bike). I did see delhi and west bengal registration taxis and private vehicles in W and S sikkim. Much of E sikkim and most of N sikkim had only sikkim taxis (may be because of restrictions by army). It was a different experience to travel around by share jeeps and since I didn't have the bikes, i could walk from villages to villages and meet people.
