May/June - Rains?
Hi guys. I'd heard the Rhododendrons flowered in May during the summer months. So naturally I concluded that a 15-day trip from something like May 20th to June 5th would be nice and sunny. Now I hear it's quite a wet time. Would really appreciate some info on this; please reply if you've been there at this time and have been caught in the rain or if it was clear skies all the time.

It shouldn't be raining that early. I've been up in Kumaon in the months of April, May and June in different years and there wasn't rain. Clouds can be a problem then though as far a seeing the peaks. But usually it was beautiful warm sunny days with no rain.
Not sure but is June too late for Rhododendrums to bloom. Don't remember. I know in April and May I've seen them in bloom. It's a good idea to make hotel reservations at that time as alot of places are full of Indian tourists at that time. |

Thanks for pitching in. Appreciate your help. So maybe we shall advance the dates, say May 13-26/27. What do you think?

Yes, advancing the dates is a good idea. Rhododendrons start wilting in the last week of May and earlier should be fine. Infact you can see them in bloom even with the initial plan, but a lot of them will be in their last days.
Since you are talking about rain, I think you are going to Sikkim? It doesn't rain in rest of the Himalayas during May-June. Even Sikkim doesnt see a great deal of rains. |

Agree with Arunchs, going earlier is better. The skies should be more clearer also. Where are you going? Like I said before alot of towns will be very busy at that time so it's a good idea to make reservations. Though I never did and always found a place to stay. But sometimes that required alot of walking to find one in my budget.
