May/June good for trekking in Sikkim?
Hi Folks,
Am travelling to Sikkim either Mid May or Mid June. Wanted to do a 7-8 day trek with the Mrs. Was wondering about the weather. Though everyone says May is better, is June really very discomfiting weather-wise? Also how populated are the routes and is a guide strictly needed? Thanks in advance everyone... ![]() |

As you know Eastern Himalaya is comparatively moist and experience more rainfall. May-Jun, I don’t think is a good time for the trek. During May, cloud will be a problem that may not allow you to enjoy the beauty of the Kanchengungha range. October is the best time (not chilly but clear sky). Dzongri-Goecha la trek is the most famous trek in Sikkim which is not possible without a guide. You need to carry your ration, tent, fuel, stove everything in this trail. So not only the guide you need porter too.

Somnath is right, expect frequent rain. Even in September the evening I landed in Gangtok it was raining. But I really enjoyed walking the deserted misty streets of Gangtok with an umbrella. I had left a muggy Delhi that morning.
