Kanchenjunga Calling
Kanchenjunga Calling
Overcrowded Sealdah station "upper class waiting room"- after standing there for last couple of hours in one feet, finally got a chair empty and writing this update from there.
Its almost been more than 6 years the words "Welcome to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose international airport Kolkata(Previously Calcutta)" are one of the most fascinating words of my life. That brings a lot of joy and happiness for me as these words brings me much closer to my home- a few weeks with family and my very close friends. And when a call from Mt. K has been added with this , it became a much cheering moment of my life. Thanks God- after all these , we are finally heading to Sikkim. Last evening was one of the busiest day in office, a half-slept night, packing my bag in the very last moment(infact in last half an hour before I started for Chennai Airport), the departure of Darjeeling mail been delayed by almost 2 hours, IMD is not showing a very encouraging weather forecast- but I am excited and hope to meet Mt K the very next morning.

Where you expect to meet Mt. Kanchenjunga?
Tiger hill is the best location to see the sunrise (It is a bit away from Darjeeling)
Then in Darjeeling you can walk through Chowrasta up to the Viewpoint (close to Governors Bunglow) and have fantastic view of the Mt. Kanchenjunga.
I will like myself to go up to the glaciers for a trek and have a close look from there of the Mt. Kanchenjunga.
Best of luck.

Update from Sillary Gaon.
14th October : As expected Darjeeling mail reached NJP delayed by almost 3 hours. We reached NJP station at 11:00 AM , our drivers was waiting for us in Darjeeling station. We have booked a Scorpio and Xylo for first 6 days of our trip. I will post you all the contact details in a different post tomorrow. We reached Sillery Gaon at 5:00PM in the evening. It was already dark. We are been warmly welcomed by Dilip Tamang and his family. Dilip Tamang is seems to be an excellent person so as his homestay. The road from NJP to Sillery is in a mixed status. Few of the part are been affected by landslide and that causes a significant delay. The roads toward Kalingpong is in very good status. From Kalimpong one have to take the road toward Pedong and just before entering Pedong , one have to take diversion toward right to reach Sillery Gaon. The road toward Sillery is surrounded by excellent landscape but I am sure it will be difficult for small cars to reach Sillery Gaon. The weather here is nice and comfortable. We had a nice dinner with Roti and Chiken Curry. We were tired and slept early. We had initially planned to stay a single night in Sillery but changed our mind in the evening- We will stay on more day here, and Dilipji made all the necessary arrangement. The weather is not in our favor , and it is very much overcast.
15th October: I was too excited last night to view the changing colors of Mt K from the homestay balcony. I have set my alarm at 5:00 AM , but waked up at 3, and 4 just to check whether the overcast condition of last night have changed or not. But, the weather God was with us today, It was too cloudy and even more than 1/2 KM was not visible. But the ambiance of the Sillery Village is too good to explain in words. We have hiked on top of the Sillery village and the dense forest of pine tree was more than a treat for a photographer's eye. We have also tried to walk upto Ramitey Dara , but a drizzle has drenched us completely. I would definitely recommend a visit to Sillery Gaon for all the nature lover, on top of it Dilip Tamang is a excellent person. The food was too goood. We had roamed around Sillery Village , and have made atleast a dozon of new friends.
The total population of Sillery Gaon is around 150 and there is a primary school here. All the locals are so simple and friendly. There are few more persons have started homestay there , but the location of Dilip Tamang is in the best location Though I can not see Mt K from here , but we have enjoyed every moment of our stay here. This place is heavenly.
There is no electricity in Sillery , but Dilip Tamang has managed to provide electricity for 2 hours everyday (7-9:30 in the evening ) by generator. He had also made 3 new rooms in his homestay.
Thank you for all your wishes- these are invaluable for me, please pour in more wishes so that I could get a day(Tomorrow) in Sillery with a clear sky and get a glimpses of Mt K range. Tomorrow we will start for Dzuluk.I have seen a photo of Mt K taken from the homestay there - and believe me these need an special adjective( Which I dont know) to describe its beauty. Please wish me luck guys.

Thank you all for your wishes. Been back from the trip today. Will upload the pics and the trip report in a couple of days. Though the weather was not in our favor for the first part of our trip ,with all your wishes, we have got excellent weather in Bermiok. It was a great experience to met Sagarneel in Bermiok.
Mt. kanchenjanga wow u have evoked my memories of the past. Once around 15 yrs ago, i was staying in Sinalchu lodge in Gangtok (at that time Gangtok was not overcrowded as it is today & i think the lodge is also closed down) I was woken up at around 5.30 in the morning by Mt. Kanchenjanga herself, opened the windows and saw her with all her glories. Believe me, i am fasicinated by the memory even today. i hope u also had the same nice experience
