Wow Rahul,
I just replied to your other thread. I personally can't imagine all of this in six days. I spent a week in Darj and six weeks in Sikkim, and I never made it to Assam.
I took the train from Veranasi to New Jalpaiguri and that was over night, about eight hours or more. Its about 9 hrs from what I remember from Delhi to Veranasi. Also when you get to NJP you take a jeep to Siliguri and then a jeep to Darj(about two hrs)
Not sure how much it costs to fly from Delhi to Badogra, but it may be worth it.

Thank you for your reply. If we go it will be by train because plane will cost too much with the number of people we are going! You were in Sikkim for a long time! I am only going to be in India for 5 weeks or so. Do you remember if there were any tours or buses or whatever that went from Gangtok to Assam?

From the sikkimhouse website :

Re the permits : your first two opportunities are the embassy and the Immigration Officers when landing. I got my permit along with the visa when visiting the Embassy. As for airrport option, this is what I´ve read, haven´t heard from someone trying it.
Obviously I´m clueless as how being NRI affects your possibilities.

Trying to include Assam in this (especially since you have such a short time - barely enough for Sikkim IMHO) doesn't make sense to me at all, because Assam isn't even adjacent to Sikkim and you'd have to backtrack through a significant portion of West Bengal just to get over to the western portion of Assam. I think you'd be better off spending your time traveling up to North Sikkim, to the areas around Lachung and the Yumthang Valley, and around Lachen and Thangu, than trying to shoehorn Assam into this! The North Sikkim trip alone could take at least three or four days.

no but it is theoretically possible to do bhutan and assam, or nepal and sikkim. six days is cutting it vary fine, though.

what do you plan to be doing? sitting in a bus nights?

Well what do you think about it if it was for around 9 days...
and though Sikkim isnt adjacent to Assam, West Bengal is and Darjeeling is in West Bengal so we could also just do something such as
Delhi-Guwahati
then after seeing there for a few days.
Guwahati-Darjeeling
after seeing stuff in darjeeling for a few days
Darjeeling-Sikkim
after seeing there for a few days
sikkim-NJP
NJP-Delhi
Would that be too hectic..?!

Oh, so if would something like this work out in 10 days in your opinion...
day 1: delhi- guwahati
day 2:kaziranga
day 3: see guwahati
day 4: guwahati-darjeeling
day 5: see darjeeling
day 6: darjeeling-gangtok
day 7: see gangtok
day 8: yumthang?
day 9: other natural attractions or kanchenjunga or something...back to gangtok by evening
day 10: gangtok-NJP, NJP-delhi.
thanks

Good luck and tell us about your travel when you have done the northeast! Delhi to Guwahati is 2 whole days??? I cant be in a train for 2 days straight, that would be horrible. Where are you going in Assam?
