Honeymoon Trip - Start of March 2009

Hi All,

We are planning to go to Sikkim on our Honeymoon from 2nd March to 11th March 2009.

1. Please suggest me, should I book a tour through some travels or finalize my itenary and book respective hotels myself. Anyone having good experience of any package travel, please help me.
2. Please suggest March is good time to visit Sikkim for honeymoon. Earlier I was looking for Kerala but March is not the best time to visit Kerala.

Also please help me in finalizing my Itinerary:
Darjeeling - 2 days
Kalimpong - 2 day
Gangtok - 2 days
I am very new to Sikkim area so also please let me know If anyone of you having any experience of honeymoon trip with some tours or travels. Also let me know any other place near by good to see....
I want to spend very less time in travelling.

March is a lovely time,in fact the best time to go to Sikkim.Flowers in full bloom,and spring season at its best.Since its ur honeymoon,i would suggest cut off darjeeling and kalimpong..these two places are too crowded.You could go to Pelling and gangtok instead and also to north sikkim(lachung/lachen) These places are heavenly for honeymoon. Since you are from Pune I cant help you about the package part,but you definitely will get a good package. Personally i feel booking hotels yourself is a much better idea,sometimes u dont end up liking the rooms they book.

Thanks a lot for info. I will take care of ur suggestion and post my trip for further suggestions. I basically belongs to delhi and will be going to start from delhi only.
Can you please help me suggesting some good hotels. My budget is around 40K for 8 or 9 days.

Here is a proposed itinery for u.

Assuming 2nd March u start ur journey and reach Sikkim on 3rd and again on 11th u start back from there..So u have 8 days and nights in Sikkim.

Day 1
Reach NJP,go to Gangtok by car(booked or shared). Booked wud be great as its ur honeymoon.They take Rs.1200 to 1300 approx for booked small car(indica or maruti van. Shared jeeps are also available for 250 per head. Reach Gangtok,go straight to your hotel. Relax and spend the evening in MG Road where you can shop for souveniers.

Day 2
After early lunch set out for local sight seeing in Gangtok.
Places to visit are :1. Rumtek Monastery, 2. Shantiview Point, 3. Chorten (Stupa), 4. Institute of Tibetology, 5. Ropeway, 6. Flower Show, 7. Directorate of Handicrafts ( Arts & Crafts Center ), 8. Falls, 9. Tashi View Point, 10. Ganesh Tok . This Points are only done in Maruti Van.

Day 3: Visit Tsomgo Lake (12,000 ft.) & Baba Mandir (14,000 ft.)
& Nathula Pass,which is the Ido-China border. Night stay in gangtok.

Day 4:Start for Lachung in shared jeep. journey of approx 5 to 6 hours. Awesome scenery on the way. Overnite at lachung.

Day 5 Travel to Yumthang,Zero point ,Katao.Go to Lachen.Overnite at Lachen.

Day 6 GuruDongmar lake,lachen village. back to gangtok.
Day 7 Start for pelling.Will take 5 hours approx from gangtok. Book a taxi(Rs.2000 approx). Spend the evening roaming around.Its a quiet little hamlet u will enjoy.
Day 8 : Local sight seeing Pemayangtse Monastery,Sangachoeling Monastery,Khechepalri Lake,Sangay Waterfall,SingShore Bridge.

Day 9: Start back return journey.

Suggested Hotels in Gangtok:Hotel Rendezvous,Cherry Guest House,Chumbi Residency ,Hotel Sonam Delek
Suggested hotels in Pelling:Green Valley,Tashi Ghang Resort,Simvo hotel,Norling

These are all economic hotels.
For Lachung and Lachen it will be a package including travel,lodging,food and sightseeing.
