Hi Atiman,
Have a quick search for trewkking in Sikkim and places of interest. I know there is quite a lot in here but if you can't find what you are looking for PM me and I'll see if I can help. Some of the information will really depend on how you want to do things and how much you want to spend but whatever you decide, a trip to Sikkim will be well worth it. Padma |

Once I tried to prepare the itinerary for Darjeeling / Sikkim (excluding North Sikkim, that will take additional couple of days.) and it is located here: seeking Darjeeling info and advice - Somnath

Good luck. |

A trip to Sikkim must include a trip to the Yumthung valley. Quite expensive but worth it for the breath taking secenic views. It's way up into the Himalaya's and is amazing. You get some get views of K2 on the drive up (weather permitting). Trips can be arranged from any travel agents in Gangtok. Tsongo Lake as well is a good day trip from Gangtok. Do make sure you sample mo-mo's, delicious tibetan dumplings.
It's quite easy to get from Sikkim to Darjeeling or vice versa via a hired jeep (personal or shared) and the drive is quite a scenic one. In Darjeeling there's lots to do. An early visit to Tiger Hill to watch the sunrise over the mountains and (apparently) views of K2, Mount Everest and others (although it was too cloudy on both of our 3:30am starts!!). Ghoom Monastery, Botanical gardens, the zoo, waterfalls and much more. In Darjeeling you can arrange the permit required for travel to Sikkim. And of course sample the famous Darjeeling Tea......... |

I went to Sikkim Darjeeling with friends last december,we were short of time but wanted to cover as much as possible-so it was pretty hectic.
Below is our itenary: Day1>>arrival at njp & travel to darjeeling. Day2>>darjeeling sight seeing. Day3>>off for gangtok early morning+5 pts tour of gangtok. Day4>>leave for yumthang, night stay at lachung. Day5>>visit yumthang and zero point, return to gangtok. Day6>>visit tsomgo lake( people at the hotel will get required permits for you) Day7>>return to njp It may look a bit hectic to you and since you are travelling with a baby you must be careful. Ya J&M is right yumthang is simply amazing and especially now in spring its time for rhododendrons(as our hotel manager told us).And sitting by the river side at lachung cradled between high ridges is just a heavenly experience. Anyway plan your itenary carefully so that you don't miss out anything important(we had to leave out Rumtek for lack of time). On the whole I believe sikkim is more beautiful than darjeeling. As far as view from Tiger Hill is concerned consider yourself lucky if you can see Kanchenjunga at first light.Anything beyond that (like everest) is extremely rare. And finally before venturing out to high altitude(yumthang and tsomgo lake both are at 12000ft) make sure that the baby can tolerate that altitude. Good Luck for the trip. |
