Help required in planning the honeymoon trip to Sikkim in December 2010
Hi All
Myself Amit from faridabad. I am planning to visit Sikkim for my honeymoon trip in 1st week of december 2010.
I am planning for a 7nights -8 days trip there.
My travel agent has given me 3 places to visit ( Gangtok, Darjeeling and Kalimpong) with all the Elgin Hotel Properties to stay in ( Hotel The Elgin in darjeeling, Hotel the Norkhill in Gangtok, Hotel Silver Oaks in Kalinpong).
Now i have following questions to ask from fellow travellers and peers who know about sikkim:
1. what are the main places in Sikkim to visit ( Me & my wife want to visit places where we can see snowfall in december), Also we would like to visit places which are quite serene, very near to nature, are quiet.
2. What are the best hotels out there in darjeeling, gangtok and other places which are quite good for honeymooners with good views, good service, quiet and not so intrusive.
3. Should i also visit pelling since i have read in many forums that it is a very good place to visit
4. Is it advisable to visit following places in december 1st week considering the weather conditions
a) Yumthang Valley and zero point beyond that
b) Nathula Pass
c) Changu lake
d) Tiger Hill for sunrise
e) Mirik, the new Hill station
f) Rumtek Monastry
Also please advice if you think any other more better places than above or including above which are must to visit.
5) Which Car should one prefer to visit all during sikkim trip ( Indica or Sumo/Qualis/Travera)
6) What type of clothes should i carry during the trip? What will be temperature normaaly in the above places in December.
7)Any other advice fellow travellers want to give me for making this trip more pleasantful and which i can remember for a long long time.
Thanks
Amit

Amit, Sikkim is the beautiful place for your honeymoon. Instead of planing for Darjeeling I suggest you to visit only Sikkim. Because the situation in Darjeeling wasn't good any time disputes may risen up.Coming to Sikkim 7-8 Days is enough. As your main intention is to enjoy the snow so I suggest you to plan a visit of pelling. Here is my sample itenary for your trip.
Day1: Reach Sikkim cover Gangtok local Sightseeing
Day2: Visit Changu Lake, Baba Mandir, Nathula Point(If permits) and return back to Gangtok.
Day 3,4,5: Visit North Sikkim there are so many travel operators in Gangtok who can offer you a best deal. There are plenty of packages for this tour. It depends upon your schedule and all.
Day 6,7: Plan for pelling and return back NJP/Bhagdodara from pelling.
Sikkim is the beautiful place to visit.

Hi,
If you want to visit Mirik and Tiger Hill, I would recommend you to stay at Darjeeling before you move towards Sikkim. I have visited Darjeeling many times and stayed in Windamere Hotel, one of the oldest colonial and heritage hotels in Darjeeling. It’s probably the most exclusive hotel on the list. Windamere Hotel is a very special place; it’s a near-perfect combination of stunning location, English-cottage-inspired coziness and impeccable service. Darjeeling is famous for its scenic beauty and climate. Mirik, a few hours drive from Darjeeling is also a beautiful place in the heart of Himalayas.
Wish you a very happy journey.
