Help needed for Gangtok-Pelling tour

Hi I am planning to go to Gangtok-Pelling (5N/6D) during October. My plan is

Day 1 : NJP to Gabgtok
Day 2 : Tsomgo lake tour
Day 3 : Local sightseeing in Gangtok
Day 4 : Gangtok to Pelling
Day 5 : Local sightseeing of Pelling
Day 6 : Pelling to NJP and back to kolkata

Planning to stay in Sikkim Retreat (Gangtok) and Chiminda International (Pelling). Can you please let me know whether these are good hotels?

Also can you please help me with the following information

1) Cab fare from NJP - Gangtok.
2) Cab fare for full day Gangtok city tour
3) Cab fare for full day tour of Pelling
4) Cab fare from Gangtok to Pelling
5) Cab fare from Pelling to NJP
6) Cab fare for Tsomgo lake tour.

I have not travelled in the recent past and so cannot answer regarding cabfares. It would also depend on type of vehicle which is not mentioned in your query.

However, I would strongly suggest that you hire a cab for the entire tour rather than hiring out on a daily basis. Most of the cabbies have a per day rate and you just have to pay out for the number of days.

Another suggestion I have is as follows : If you finetune your plan a bit, you can spend more time in Pelling than in Gangtok. Gangtok is all full of hustle and bustle. In comparative terms, Pelling is better off.

We have stayed in Chiminda several years ago and it used to be good at that point of time. No recent data.

The hotels are both good with view............please mention total heads or car type/model to have fare as mentioned my fellow IM...........dont book car for entire trip, it'll be a problem in Gangtok & Tsangu

2) Cab fare for full day Gangtok city tour

actually it depends how many point you wanna cover..........rs 800 (local taxi) for general/8-10 points.........except Rumtek

3) Cab fare for full day tour of Pelling

Again depends on points, rs 800-1200 for common places day long


4) Cab fare from Gangtok to Pelling

1200-1600 without sightseeing stopage


5) Cab fare from Pelling to NJP

1200-1600

6) Cab fare for Tsomgo lake tour.

2500-4000

Hi...will it be safe to travel to Pelling from Gangtok and do sightseeing in Pelling using small car?

Thanks PKanti...actually a travel agent was telling me that condition of road from Gangtok to Pelling good. He told same thing about the roads in Pelling (for sightseeing) and suggested SUV (Tata Sumo) for both. But as per your message, I am assuming that road condition is not that bad...

If its peek season then ready to shell out more for a taxi as they do not operate on that rate. ..I have been there in Gangtok recently they were charging very high

VERY TRUE! I WAS THERE ON 2 ND AND THEY WERE CHARGING AROUND 9000 FOR TSONGO AND NATHULA.
Prepaid taxi rate from NJP to Gangtok is 1800 but no taxi was available there....

coz no one who got brain goes to Prepaid booth
