Sorry, but foriegners are not allowed in Gurudongmar.
may because it is very close to china border.
similarly nathula pass is also not allowed for same reason.

So does North sikim is still worth it?

Hi,
We will be travelling to sikim for 14 days trip starting September 25th.
We love to walk and hike.
I know that this is not allowed for forigners in noth sikkim and it will be basiclly a jeep sight seing tour.
Do you think it still worth it without grundamar lake or should we skip it and make the all 14 days in west sikkim?
thanks

you may be allowed to see youmthang valley in north sikkim.
north sikkim can be easily covered in 2-3 days by jeep.
remaining time you may decide to cover west sikkim(pelling) etc.
your tour operator can guide you.

Personally I do think it worthwhile to visit North Sikkim in spite of the restrictions on travel for non-Indian nationals. The scenery is stunning. We travelled to North Sikkim two and a half years ago. Over a four-day trip we visited Lachung, Yumthang Valley, as well as Lachen, Thangu, and the places in between. Yes, it is travelling by jeep. But nothing to stop you from going hiking in between. Well, your guide may want to accompany you! Photography is somewhat restricted because of the strong army presence and the proximity to the border. Don't be put off by all that. It is still a beautiful destination.

West Sikkim is quite different. There you can hike all day without restrictions. Completely different vegetation. Lots of monasteries to visit.

I suggest that in your two weeks you have ample time to do both (and spend a little bit of time in Gangtok, which is also interesting; you will need to organize your N. Sikkim permit there in any case - from a travel agent - since you cannot go to the North independently).

Please write about your travels afterwards!

North sikkim

Thanks.
I think I will do it.
I will make the north sikkim trip with all the restrictions
since I really can't think of missing it.

I know I have to do it via an egency and I will write after the trip as I did in my previous visits to India.

this will be my fifth time and I just love it.
