Gangtok-Yumthang-Pelling

I'm travelling to Sikkim with family (wife, mother 68 yrs, daughter 6 yrs) for 6 N/7 D fr 28 May-3 June. Here's the itinerary:

5/28/08: Bagdogra to Gangtok. Overnight at Gangtok.
5/29/08: Gangtok to Tsongo Lake, Nathula. Overnight at Gangtok.
5/30/08: Gangtok to Lachung and overnight stay.
5/31/08: Lachung to Yumthang and back to Gangtok. Overnight stay.
6/01/08: Gangtok to Pelling via Rabangla. Stay at Pelling.
6/02/08: Pelling sightseeing. Overnight stay.
6/03/08: Pelling to Bagdogra.

1. Pl. comment on the itinerary.
2. Pl. suggest if it's advisable to visit Nathula and Yumthang with mother (68 yrs, high B.P.) and child (6 yrs).

At Nathula and Gurudongmar lake in north Sikkim, there will be very low oxygen because of high altitude.
Your tour seems to be very tight - this might be strenous for your kid and mother. Rather consider dropping either north Sikkim or Pelling. Sikkim is very beautiful - no harm in visiting it once again.
Also pl. check whether Nathula is open on that particular day.

North Sikkim itinerary

Well I travelled with a two year old and a six year old in March2006 and they were fine.
However we took some precautions. Perrhaps you may want to consider these.
1. We acclimatised for a week at Kalimpong and Darjeeling. Since Nathu La, Dokayla are at 15000 ft the body needs to adjust. This might affect your mom more than your child. You might want to leave her at Changu Lake and continue to Nathu La and pick her up on the way back from Nathu La since Changu is at least some few thosand feet below.
2. For North Sikkim we travelled by our own taxi. We opted for a three night package which came to Rs.13000 which included one guide and all food. The stay at Lacheng was very basic but at Lachung we were put up at the Le Coxy Resort which was probably the nicest place there. Having said that it is still somewhat basic.
3. After Yumthang and Dokayla we came back to Lachung and spent the night there. Next morning we started for Gangtok. Although the distance is only 120 kms it easily takes around 7 hours driving time. We reached only in the evening around 5 at Gangtok and were completely tired. If you do Dokayal and Gangtok the same day you are going to have to deal with a very cranky six year old and a tired mother. Take an extra day if possible and make it a 2 night 3 day package. Avoid going on share taxi as they take 10 passengers and the journey is not very comfortable due to the hilly terrain.

Thank you, Rajat, for this relevant and point-specific reply. I'm planning to leave Mother and child at Gangtok before proceeding to Yumthang. I think that'll be better. Thanx again.

Thanx, Mousourik, for your suggestion. I'm planning to amend the itinerary. Maybe I'll make arrangements for my Mother and my daughter to stay back at Gangtok for 1 N while we tour Yumthang. They'll get enough rest in that way before we proceed to Pelling. Any further suggestion about stay in Pelling would be appreciated.
