Thanks Sradha and Robin for your valuable inputs.

I too wanted to visit the North Sikkim but I thought that weather will not allow me. Pls advice if the weather and road conditions in north sikkim will be fine to visit during Jan end (28-31). One more thing, I can visit these places for scenic beauty & serenity. Availability of flowers/rhododendrons is not a necessity.

29th Jan is tuesday and I think nathula is open on only wed, thu, sat & sun. Pls advice on this one too.

How can I arrange a 3 days-2 night north sikkim trip? I mean do I've to book my own taxi, or shared taxi or public transport system is there?
How much will it cost me to book my own taxi? I guess they must be using indica/alto as small car taxis?
If everything goes well, can I have a itinerary something like: -

27th : NJP to Gangtok & local sight seeing(Night Stay)
28th : Visit North Sikkim on a (2 night 3 days) trip. Night Stay
in Lachun (a small beautiful village).
29st :Visit Yumthang Valley, Zero Point or Katao and ofcourse
the Hot spring in yumthang and then transfer to Lachen.
30st :Visit Chopta Valley and ofcourse the Divine Lake
Gurudongmar at an altitude of 17800ft. and back to Gangtok
31th(thu) : Visit Changu Lake / Baba Mandir / Nathula Pass(Night Stay)
1st : you can visit… rumtek, ranka & sang…. It is a lovely drive abt an hr from Gangtok. (as suggested by Sradha)
I can skip darjeeling if only fun is to get up at 4 and see sunrise & do shopping(my wife will hate me for this ).
2nd transfer to NJP.

One very important info i would like to know is the travel time between these locations. If you could provide this info also, I'll be highly thankful.

Well if u wish to cancel Darjeeling then this tour maybe fruitful. But I think u should add the charming Darjeeling Mall evening. Thats a romantic place. Its a nostalgic place to visit. I think u should keep a day for darjeeling.
For local sight seeing in Gangtok....its all bullshit. But do visit Rumtek / Tibetology (museum)forgot the actual name....thats it. There are local tour operators who offer 7point or maybe 4 point tour. its worth going for 4 point. Coz i hve been there in 7 point tour. Its wortless. But do check out for the places they will take u.
Regarding Nathula Pass i forgot the actual days of visiting. It may have changed. But if possible do contact me at my Email Address. From NJP take share Jeeps (10 heads) to Gangtok. thats a 4 to 5 hrs journey. From Gangtok to Lachung its 6hrs trip.
Well regarding jeep fare to North sikkim trip : Dont go for booking ur own Jeep to North Sikkim. U will become bankrupt....ha ha ! for booking a vehicle for 2 night 3days trip its Rs.18000.00. (1800 per head) But it depends on offseason and hightime. i think Jan is Offseason. All the rates will come down. But if u plan then Book them early. Nathula too u have to book in advance.

Do post me in my Email for more tips and helps.

I can surely help u out in this regard.

Take Care,
byeeeeeeeeee

I regret missing North Sikkim ..But yes, you can do Nathulla , Baba Mandir and Changu lake on one day ..It will be quite cold..as I had been there in jan and temp was 0 .See Pelling and Yuksom as well. They are very beautiful . Pelling is about 4 hours from gangtok .
Also go to Rumtek if you are at Gangtok..the city in my opinion is over rated ..so the places around are more beautiful. You can check my blog http://backpakker.blogspot.com/search/label/Sikkim for details or mail me on lakshmi.sharath@gmail.com

yes pelling is a beautiful place to visit but they have to reschedule the whole thing again. The trip will be very hectic.
Well i have done this trip in Oct. its Gangtok-Pelling.
But in pelling u got to stay for atleast 2 nights otherwise not. Becoz sight seeing here is a must. But for snowy anniversary then North Sikkim is Ideal this time. It will become the Switzerland of East. Believe me its like watching a Calender Photo.

I don’t mean to discourage u but I have my full doubts if u’ll be able to do North Sikkim during this time…. Maybe you can go as far as Lachung but Gurudongmar is out of question. It snows heavily here hence the roads will be blocked. Nathula is also the same… u wont b able to go their either.

The approx time to reach lachung is about 6 hrs from Gangtok….

Yes..It happenned to us and we could not go to North sikkim . My route was Bagdogra-Pelling-Gangtok and back ..The roads were closed and there were some landslides ..didnt want to discourage , but its better to check weather conditions . Pelling was however unaffected and we spent a day there
