Question Darjeeling,Sikkim N Yumthung In Mid November with 1.5 years Baby

Hi All,
I am a very new in this forum. I am going to travel in Sikkim in mid November and thats why I am joining the forum exclusively.
There I will be accompanied by my Parents(aged 65-55) , my sister and her two sons (One of them is 1.5 years of age, other is at 5).
I planned to visit north Sikkim (specially Yumthung) in my way, but yesterday I talked with a tour agent and they are discouraging me to visit Yumthung in mid November with the 1.5 years baby. But I don't wanna miss Yumthung .... So I was searching for some personal experience from net and came across this forum... .. this is a gem. I saw, joined and now posting for important feedback from you.

In my trip I want to cover Darjeeling, Gangtok, Yumthung, Pelling and Ravangla as I want to explore max.....

Here follows my travel plan.. Please have a look and provide me any type of feedback to make my trip better...
12th Nov : Sealdah To NJP by Darjeeling mail. expected arrival at NJP 8.00 A.M.
13th Nov : NJP to Darjeeling. I have planned to have toy train ride after reaching Darjeeling.. Is it possible ?? Till now have not booked any Hotel, How about hotel Sanderling ? Any Idea....
14th Nov : Darjeeling Sight seeing and exploring the mall and surroundings in after noon.
15th Nov : Early morning towards Gangtok. Is it possible to have any sight seeing in Gangtok after that ?
16th Nov : Now here the confusion starts .. Should I go to Yumthung tour or Not??? If I go I will be back on Gangtok on 17th Evening
and no chance for Gangtok sight seeing As I would love to reach pelling on 18th. Please suggest me what should I do ?? Else
17th Nov : Gangtok Sight seeing. (How about Tsangu Lake)
18th Nov : Gangtok to Pelling .. exploring the surroundings.
19th Nov : Pelling sight seeings. is it possible to reach Ravangla after pelling sight seeing?
20th Nov : Ravangla...sight seeing if possible else simple rest and exploring the surroundings.
21th Nov : Train at 8.00 P.M. from NJP... hence No way other than Ravangla to NJP. Me and My sister is Planning to have a rafting from Malli i our way back .

Now as you can see its a bit hectic schedule so If It is possible to Visit Yumthung I can cut off Ravangla or Pelling if you suggest.
I will book Darjeeling hotel and Gangtok hotel within a few days....

So please do a favor of me by sharing your informations and views.

Waiting for your replies....

I'd speak to a doctor about taking a child that young up to almost 4000 meters, there might be a problem with AMS.

HI,
i'll be able to help in reference to few things

17th Nov : Gangtok Sight seeing. (How about Tsangu Lake)

yes you can try a ride once you reach darjeeling but i have no ides how the booking is done obviously it will be done at the station..n but no clear idea.I have not heard about a hotel called sanderling
15 th if you start early (7 am)from darj you'll be able to reach gangtok around 12 noon latest so you have an afternoon free to go about the town its quite small so enough time...Changu will take a day as you'll start early by 6.30 to 7 am return by 4-5 pm so you'll be tired from the days ride but you'll get awesome view ,i am from darjeeling but had not visited sikkim..i loved the highway the flora and fauna are great...i thoughy why go to switzerland when you country offers diverse opportunity to travel.
i do not have info on other places as i have not visited it yet but will be going to north sikkim lachen/lachung/yungtham and gurudongmar in oct...i heard yungtham is best in april when the sanctuary is in full bloom with rhododandrons.

Hello Mantru,
It is really nice to have the answer directly from Darjeeling. .
Can you please provide me any information about the trasport charge.
e.g. NJP to Darjeeling by Tata sumo.
Darjeeling to Gangtok by Tata Sumo and Tasngu trip in a booked car.

I am expecting more inputs from the experienced people around.

Thanks for your input well in advance.

hi diptiman--welcome to indiamike. i joined the site last year for precisely the same reason and, thanks to the folks here, had a great trip. i learned here everything i could possibly need to know--and then some.

for starters, you may want to browse the sikkim forum a bit and, especially, have a look at this relatively recent thread. i seem to recall a sikkim thread started by a traveler with a baby or young child as well. if i can find it, i'll post the link here.

good luck with your plans.

hey from njp to darjeeling you can take shared taxis mostly it will be like sumo...it will be cheaper and i guess it will be 100 per head its been one year since i travelled so most be little over 100-120 give and take...from darjeeling to gangtok would be125 per head ..its best to travel shared..changu i amnot sure we had taken a maruti van but forgot the cost...it will not be more..check with these people i might be taking their offer for north sikkin they will get it done within 2000 per head for 3d/2n in north...
