Regarding Travel agents

Hi,

I have given some advance amount to Prabir Sen's agency for booking of north sikkim tour, 1 week ago. Till now I have not received any receipt or something.

When I called, them they told my tour is confirmed but still did not send any receipt. I am just asking you guys, is it usual for these kind of travel agencies? Will there be any problem?

Talking lachen-lachung-yumthang-gurudongmar lake from 22nd dec-25 dec, 2009

Hi All,
Me and my wife are planning to visit north sikkim from 22nd dec to 25th dec. our plan is like this:
22nd dec: reach njp by darjeeling mail from kolkata. reach gangtok.
23rd dec: gantok to lachung. stay at lachung.
24th dec: visit yumthang valley. go to lachen. stay at lachen.
25th dec: back to gangtok.
26th dec: back to njp. take night train to kolkata.
Is the itinerary okay?
somewhere along the way we would like to visit gurudongmar lake as well if weather/road condition permits. our main attraction is snow. we would love to see snow around us and possibly experience snow fall as well
Can anyone please help us with the following queries:

1. We want to make this tour on a minimum budget. What can be the approx cost njp to njp if we go everywhere on a shared basis. (shared jeep and all)
2. We will reach njp at 8am on 22nd. so we will be in gangtok by 2-3 pm i guess. will it be difficult to get a shared jeep, permits and all other necessary things in few hours because we need to start on the next day morning, i.e. 23rd dec. How many people are accommodated in a single vehicle (mahindra maxx, tata sumo)? As we are only 2 people, do we need to go looking for like-minded couples/family so that 8-9 people can share a jeep; or is it like the tour operator/ car driver would get people in the car and we need not bother about that?
3. what can a standard room with basic amenities cost in gangtok, we need to spend 2 nights at gangtok so we would like to keep the cost to a minimum.
4. Considering that there is not much one can do/see in lachen/lachung, so if we miss trip to yumthang valley and/or gurudongmar lake due to landslide or something, our entire tour would be futile, so can anybody please suggest any backup plan (like other places around gangtok - chhangu lake, nathu-la etc)?
5. If anybody has gone to these places around this time of the year or planning to do so, i'd be thankful if they can share their experiences/ plans with us. I want to get an idea if there is a fair chance of visiting yumthang and/or gurudongmar lake during this period.
6. finally, as already stated, our main attraction is to see snow around, so if anybody can suggest alternative plans/places (like lava-lolegaon-rishap?) in case north sikkim tour does not work out due to mostly negative feedback (roads would be closed so there is no point going there at end december etc etc). our trains are booked on 21st dec and 26th dec, so the dates cannot be changed now, we can tweak the plan in the extreme case from njp-to-njp only.

Thanks a lot everyone.
Cheers!

Should be around 4-6K on sharing basis

Since u have a short window its better to speak to some operators beforehand...there are plently of them mentioned in this site

3. what can a standard room with basic amenities cost in gangtok, we need to spend 2 nights at gangtok so we would like to keep the cost to a minimum.

U can get rooms for around 400 per nite...which are strictly decent...keep lookibng for hotels around MG road and bargain hard..since its off season my gut is u should get somethin around 500 per nite

G tio nathula pass, changu lake...monastries around gangtok..or just chill out at gangtok...dont have high expectations just enjoy ur jouney!

Hi there, I would like to catch some of the festivities in particular those with Chaam (Lama dancing) that's happening in Sikkim in December 2009.

Some help needed on clarifications:
is Losoong Sikkimese in December or January?

is Sonam Losoong and Losoong Sikimese different?

will there be Chaams during the Losoong Sikimese?

Any where I can get reliable dates? Googling and web information has gotten me all confused with interchangable terminology and different dates!!!

HELP please... thanks!
Penelope

Penelope, the chaam at Enchey monastery in Gangtok is on 15th Dec. I too am travelling to Sikkim in Dec & wanted to see the chaam during Losoong. The information on the internet is conflicting. So, I spoke to a few people in Sikkim & this is the date that has been confirmed to me. I have made my bookings accordingly.
