Hi PKanti,

Since I am going with family cant afford to go without bookings
What kind of weather can I expect at that time ( 30th April to 2nd May ) ? One of tour operator mentioned that road to Yumthang is blocked due to snow and the road may open by the time we visit
Not sure if that would be true. Tourism office mentions its open and that GuruDongMar is blocked

I booked these days assuming rains would be less and no road blockages either due to snow or landslides, Now I am very anxious
Based on experience what do you say ?

@ raks35

April-May is one of the best seasons for N Sikkim...........full of Rhododendrons and clear sky.........but there will be light shower in evening at Lachung.....dont worry its normal..........approx temperature:

Lachung: Minimum 2°C - 6°C and Maximum 12°C - 16°C (if there is a light rain at evening)
Lachung: Minimum 4°C - 8°C and Maximum 15°C - 20°C
Gurudongmar: -2°C - 5°C at around 9to12 noon (if winding 30/40 km/h)

Pleae note: its not a prediction.......its just a sumup of my experiences of that time

Oh we would love that, Santanu. And you are right about Sikkim being a place to visit again and again. Garhwal during the summers is very brown and dry in comparison to the mountains of north eastern side. Sikkim is all green, waterfalls running down at almost all bends and colourful flowers blooming all around.

@raks35 - Please check out www.accuweather.com (you can get it for a month ahead) their predictions for Lachen matched in our case.

PKanti is right about booking tour packages from Gangtok. You will get a difference of about Rs. 2000/- (or even some more) per head. Say from Kolkata we got quotations from few tour operators who had their counterparts in Gangtok which was in the area of Rs. 6000/- per head for 2N/3D tour of N. Sikkim. But this stood at Rs. 4000/- per head if booked from Gangtok and that too from reputed tour operators.

As for Yumthang, yes 12 Kms of 24 Kms. from Lachung have been cleared of snow but locals said entire stretch will be cleared by May.

Gurudongmar road is open and it will depend on the weather and luck for you to reach the place.
