Dear friends, today I am going to tell a short but unforgettable journey of East Sikkim through silk route. The journey began on 12th of October,2010 at Sealdah railway Station, Kolkata. New Jalpaigudi (NJP) bound Padatik express was waiting for us.
13th October, 2010
At 10:30 AM , we have reached NJP where our pre-booked car Mahindra Scrorpio was waiting for us. Man at the stirring, Mr. Nikhil Chandra Paul, collects our luggage and bound for Reshi, near Pedong (13 KM from Reshi). According to Mr. Paul , Reshi is a lesser known place, nothing to see and he doesn’t know how to reach. I was little bit worried and ask him to go Pedong then we can move by asking locals. At 2.00-2.30 we have reached Pedong via Kalimpong and Alagarh, and started our journey through Reshi Road. Actually this road started from Pedong have an historical outlook and known as silk route. Through this road, trade of silks has been done long ago to Tibet. Reshi is a village in West Bengal, but our driver came across the Sikkim border at Rhenok. We asked a local girl about address of Mr. Sebastian Pradhan, who is the developer of Reshi ecotourism and owner of our eco resort. The girl asked for a lift and show us the way. We crossed the Sikkim border, and finally reached at the bank of Reshi Khola (river). We called Mr. Pradhan , Who sent some porter to carry our luggage along with a peculiar dog who is also shows the way to resort. To reach this resort we have to cross the river through a bamboo bridge. Resort people welcome us and show our cottage and after few minutes later they told that our lunch is ready. We took our lunch and started capturing snaps of the surroundings.
14th October,2010
In the morning, we again started to take snaps includes a local waterfalls and Reshi river. At 9 P.M. We leave Reshi and started journey to Zuluk through Aritar. Before that we prepare papers for our permit to enter East Sikkim. It is necessary to bring Photo ID along with passport size photo for every tourist. Our Driver Pempa Sherpa nice and talkative guy shows his village and we reached Aritar Lake (Lampokhari Lake) very soon. Though it is an artificial lake, but its location made its beauty. Swans, Ducks, and whole lot of fishes made this lake more and more beautiful. From Aritar we reached Rongli and Pempa made our permit and then from the bank of Rongli khola (river) we started our journey to Zuluk (9,800 ft) through Lingtum and Padamchin. On the way, we are experienced to view nice Keukhola falls near Lingtum . At 3 PM we reached Zuluk village, where the family of Mr. Gopal Pradhan welcome us and provide us a cottage. The weather is quite chilling there and we took a cup of coffee and after half and hour we took our lunch. The view of the range of hills fabulous from here. After lunch we visited local temple on the top of hills and met local children Roshni,Jiwan,Sawan,Rias, and Dambo. We have experienced a nice sunset there.

15th October,2010
We get up as early as 3 PM and prepare to leave Zuluk. At 5 PM, we reached Thambi view pint to see Kanchenjunga range, weather was little bit clody, unfortunately could not catch up the great view, but manages to see some portion of it, then we moved to sunrise point and started out jouney through Gnathang Valley. From there we can see glimpses of valley of Bhutan. At 6.30 AM , we reached Adi Baba Mandir, in the memory of Harbhajan Singh, a beloved Indian army soldier and his banker. This is not that mandir which tourist often see as a part of Gangtok sightseen. There we took our tea and move to Kupup and view Elephant lake. We took our breakfast at Kupup with Maggi noddles and again started our journey. We came across Yak golf course the highest in the world at more than 12,000 ft. Then we experienced to view Memencho Lake from the top, unfortunately we cannot reach there as it was a huge landslide and our journey shifted to War memorial, in the memory of martyrs of Indian Army. From there we can see China border and one building and tower of People republic of China. Then we see Nathula pass 4 KM ahead of China border and shift our jouney to popular Tsomgo (Changu Lake). After spending sometime beside Tsomgo (Changu) lake finally we move to Gangtok. On the way viewed beautiful Mandakini falls.

16th October, 2010
Time to say bye bye Sikkim, Our Driver Lalji is waiting for us to take. We leave for NJP where at 9 PM Sealdah bound Padatik Express was waiting for us.

Me along with two friends are planning the same route next april, can u answer few queries I have,it would be treally helpful :
1)Given a choice which is a better place to stay Reshi or Mankhim Top(Aritrar)?
How far is Aritrar from Reshi?
2)What was your Transportation cost to cover the whole silk route right from NJP to gangtok?
3)On the third day,how much time did it take to reach Gangtok from Zuluk, stopping by at all the places you have?
