Advice Needed on Sikkim

Hi,
I am hoping to travel to India in mid Jan for 2 weeks, 1 week for new delhi, agra and jaipur and another week for sikkim. is it advisable to travel to sikkim in mid january. I love to see mountains,so was wondering if i should make the trip from new delhi.
would appreciate it if anyone can give advice on what are the places that i can visit with 7 days in mind....or should i only go sikkim during months and stick to some other places near new delhi...thanks.

pls check the temprature before visiting sikkim in Jan, you can cover some part of sikkim in 7 days. select from nature, monestries, or city and then mark out the places. i liked north sikkim the best in month of may, so many water falls and beautyful snow peaks just out of this world.

TrekkerEH... It is not a great help to give some guy's name and phone number, without any indication of who he is or what he does or why he should suddenly want to be deluged with thousands of phone calls.

In fact, strictly, it is against the site rules to release personal information.

If there is a question like, what is XYZ Hotel address and phone number, and you have it, or have a local directory, then please post it.

Just giving out names and numbers --- no. How do we know you are not just advertising for someone? We can't tell.

Hi there,
If you love mountains then u can have plenty of that in Sikkim. You get fantastic view of the worlds 3rd highest mountatin Kanchenjunga from many places in Sikkim. However January will be peak winter season and hence very cold. Places like North Sikkim might not be accessible due to snow, however West Sikkim is a very good option during winters. Pelling, Rabong, Renchebong, Dentam, Tashiding, Yuksom , Chakhung are many places in West Sikkim where you can visit and soak in the Himalayan winters. In East Sikkim you can visit Gangtok, Rumtek, Sang, Pakyong, Renok etc. Winters in Sikkim is all about hot drinks, warm fire and snow covered peaks that can be seen from many of these places. So go prepared for the cold and a good experience.

Hi fang,

Its worth visiting North Sikkim if you want to have yourself surrounded by lofty snow peaks around you.......thats amazing.
As in north sikkim you have to travel to the heights of 9000ft to 18000ft.......you can guess the situation. Sometimes the peaks will be at your eye level or sometimes at a stone throwing distance.......as well as rugged landscape at that height !! Its just out of this world.

But West sikkim will be calm and peace and serene with greenery and distant peaks of himalayas.

Well if you really need to see mountains then try north sikkim. It will worth each and every penny. But before you decide north sikkim please get more information of the road condition through Sikkim tourist centre.

In north sikkim you have to stay in Lachung or Lachen.....both are beautiful small village at 9000ft. and believe me they become Switzerland of east in winter with snow everywhere. You might need snow boots. and that you can hire from that place.

anyway.........good luck..
expecting some great snaps
