Smile 3 days @ sikkim

Hi,
I am new to this site. Its a great place to get info. We were planning to have a trip to sikkim this month for 4 days from the 18th to 22nd..

We wud be reaching gangtok on the night of 18th. Were planning to see gangtok on 19th, tsangmo and nathula on the 20th. We wanna visit the north of sikkim(yumthang) also. Would one day be enough for this as we have our return flight from bagdogra at 12pm on the 22nd or do we need to extend our stay by another day..?

Kindly suggest any other places that are worth visiting in sikkim and any info that might be useful. Thanks a lot

Arti

One day might not be enough. To reach Yumthang it takes 5-6 hours, you cant visit Yumthang and come back, but have to spend 12 hours on the road, too much in one day...

you need 2 days for a yumthang trip. i would suggest you go for a gurudongmar lake trip instead, which also takes 2 days.

you can not visit and come back from yumthang in 1 day from gangtok. If you are still opting for north sikkim visit, then you have to extend you stay for 2 more days. on 21st you have to proceed for Lachung from Gangtok via Mangan. You will reach Lachung (yumthng) in the evening. 22nd will be your activities day in Yumthang. On 23rd you have to be back to Gangtok after breakfast. You will reach gangtok in the evening hours. 24th early morning you have to come down to Siliguri (bagdogra) for your onward journey. It will take almost 4.5 hours to reach Bagdogra from Gangtok.

Another itinerary: better you come back to Kalimpong on 20th evening. enjoy the calm town for the day. you can visit Mangal Dham, Deolo Hill, Grahams Home. on 21st you can stay there. on 22nd you can reach bagdogra from there. It takes almost three hrs from Kalimpong to reach Bagdogra.

Arti,

Your timing for going to sikkim doesn't seem to be all that great. Just came from Sikkim after a two month sojourn over there. As of now the roads are in a bad shape with lots of landslides and you might have a tough time just reaching Gantok from Silliguri as as NH31 is notorious for landslides. In Gantok visit the Tibetology as it is a very interesting place having a good museum of Tibetan artifacts. Instead of going to Yumthang you can go to Kewzing and enjoy the village culture by living in the home stay over there.
