11 days Bagdogra - Sikkim - Bagdogra: what's best?

Hi All,

We are arriving in Bagdogra on 11th Jan, booked out on 22nd. With 11 days, what can we expect to do in terms of getting to Sikkim and a week's trek? We are medium fit. Don't want to attempt anything too high in altitude.

What is required for a trekking permit and how long does it take to get one?

Yes. I've read quite a few. But most posters have already decided where to go. I am verging towards Sandakphu, (Darjeeling) rather than going to Dzhongri, (Sikkim) as the former is closer to Bagdogra, it allows a circle route rather than retracing and doesn't require a permit.

darjeeling / kalimpong / kurseong... i guess are the places for you then goatfarmer.

ghoom monastery comes to mind... on the way to darjeeling.

and of course - why not take the toy train upto darjeeling?
[hope its still running, dont really know the details of place of embarkation]
great way to travel up them mountains.

give it a couple more days - you'll get more suggestions.
