India is very safe. No worries mate.
Violence is on the rise all over the world. Often, like in the US, places like malls, schools, churches. I am a Canadian - Canada does not give it citizens "right to bear arms" - that is a US constitutional right that is being misused by NRA folks. Canadians are very peaceful, not gun-trotting folks. And we obtain the right/privledge to bear(in this case meaning to carry for target practise or hunting purposes) through competency courses & security checks. Owning guns for sporting purposes has no bearing on whether the citizens of a Nation are peaceful .... or not.![]()

When we were married in India a few years ago we were accompanied by 11 friends from the US. The parent's of one of the couples who came were very apprehensive about their traveling to India.
They would get comments along the lines of: "You know, in the mornings they drag the dead people out of the streets..." WTF!?!?

To Evaluate Risk, Compare Apples to Apples -- not to Oranges
Quote:
India has about 3.5 times more people than the United States; India has about 30 times more people than Canada. Population numbers do not prove everything, but one has to keep these numbers in mind when evaluating the newspaper accounts of weird events. Is India 3.5 times more violent than the US? Is the US 9 times more violent than Canada? Is India 30 times more violent than Canada? The relative ages of the populations also makes a difference: generally the magnitude of violence correlates with the number of people in any group between the ages of 14 and 29. In this day and age, it probably would not be wise to "advertise" oneself too obviously as belonging to a group that al Qaeda and its affiliates have announced an intention to annihilate [of course, that includes an awfully lot of groups]. |
