The Great Indian Juice trick Mumbai

There is this small shop in a lane opposite the IIT mumbai at powai. I had some time to kill so i went there to have a sweet lime juice (mausambi juice). There was another guy who also ordered the same juice.

This guy picks one tiny mausambi puts in into the juice crusher. The juice trickels into a stainless steel vessel. I reckon it wont even fill half a glass and this guy would need to use at least six mausambis to fill two glasses.

But this guy starts pouring and voila it fill two glasses to the rim!!

Wow! Well for the next two week I felt feverish .
It doesn't interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare dream of meeting your heart's longing.

Sorry to here about your illness navinkurian2002 - hope you have recovered fully and are now firing on all cylinders. Sweet lime juice (mausambi juice) is one of the main reasons I return to India and - make no mistake - it has enough nutrients and goodness within a few glasses(if taken early enough) to stall the common cold virus in it's tracks. But my immune system not being like that of the average Indian needs pure, clean, non-watered down juice and thus take it only from the most authentic, hygienic looking dispensers.
We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time. ~

Looks like he had some juice left over from an earlier squeeze in the container and he filled up the two glasses. Sounds like the ice he used did not agree with you. You asked for it and you got it. It's unfortunate that you fell sick. It builds up your immunity and makes you stronger. Now you can enjoy the pani puris.

Yup ! I guess that is what he had ,He had this big stainless steel strainer covering the vessel so could not see what was inside the vessel. No ice so ruled that out.

The ice is the culprit most of the time.

Not the ice - the glass. They are usually rinsed between customers in a bucket of water below the counter. Great way to get sick. So often I would like a fresh roadside orange or sugar cane juice, but walk away ...

No , the ice contributes greatly as well, if the quality of the water is not good then the ice will reflect that..

You certainly should be able to tell if you are drinking fruit juice or water with a bit of fruit in it, and don't be afraid to send it back! Of course, if you are not used to juice stalls, you may not be able to assess the fruit yet.

With juice and chai stalls, try to pick one that has evidence of running water: you want to avoid that rinsing bucket, or at least make sure the water is relatively young.

My native wife is much more fussy than most visitors about what and where we eat/drink --- she often refuses chai when I drink it, and tells me I shouldn't, or demands they give me a disposable plastic cup, but she is always on for a clean-looking juice place. We never yet got sick from juice.

Two things you would have observed while having fresh crushed juice by the roadside.
1. The container is always covered with a filter. God only knows what is there is the container. If the juice costs you Rs. 5 no way 3 sweet limes would be crushed (they sell Rs. 60 per dozen atleast). Hence there is water or some additive inside the vessel where the juice is filtered.
2. They dont wash these glasses in running water. They have just one bucket of water and as long as the vendor doesnt drink the juice he is not averse to washing 100 glasses in one small bucket of water repeatedly.

I have seen roadside juice vendors serving fresh fruit juices at Rs. 5 a glass, what beats logic is that the cost of the raw material itself is 3 times then how can one manage at tis cost. I discovered the devil in detailing.

I have seen those huge slabs of ice been dragged over the railway platform .
Did the malaria ,typhoid tests both negative ,took some antibiotics but it seems to have taken its time to get out of the system.
