Our Chennai trafic cops dress in khaki. I gather there is a difference to ordinary cops' uniform, but I haven't sussed it.

Goan and Kolkata police have different coloured uniforms but the rest of India i smore or less similar...cops wear all-khaki and traffic cops wear white and khaki.

Ambulance services...no fixed colour...usually white. There is no separate ambulance service. Ambulances belong to respective hospitals. Govt. hospitals...white.

Fire services...black overalls.

Hi Dan,

if you have still not confused, here's some more...

Police invariably wears Khaki uniform except Kolkata and Goa.

Traffice police wears either white shirt with Khaki trouser or white shirt with blue trouser (New Delhi)or full khaki.

There is no centralised Ambulance service, it is provided by either Hospitals (white) or may be affiliated to Fire brigade or municipality (white/khaki).

Fire brigade wears mostly khaki uniform with some local variation, like in Mumbai the Turnout coat is of Black/Dark Blue Colour.

To differentiate between all those khaki wearers you have look bit closer for the Insignia on the arms and the Abbreviated initials on shoulder. For example

DP - Delhi Police
IPS - Indian Police Service (all senior officers belong to IPS)
DFS - Delhi Fire Service
DTP - Delhi Traffic Police
