TataSky - Incompetent & expensive non-service

Here's a case of an institutionalised scam that all residents should be aware of ....

TataSky customer service is the usual call centre based combination of being kept on hold, asked for 20 digit PIN numbers and complaint references and congenitally unresponsive customer service people, but with the added spice of being lied to about engineers call out times and returning phone calls.

But to add the misery is the fact that when the engineer does not call to fix the problem, you are automatically charged Rs 900 for the 'call out'!

Then they cancel the call-out request as the issues 'has been fixed'.

When you say noboby called and the problem still exists - they charge you another Rs 300 to not call again.

It's actually cheaper to ditch the Tata digibox and start again with another service

Sounds a bit like the Tata phone landline I had some years ago.
The story is elsewhere on indiamike, and not pretty.

That said, I know a few people who use tatasky and seem ok with it. But perhaps they haven't had a problem yet.

There are plenty of jobs in India in sales. After sales jobs don't seem to be advertised so much

And will it manage a U-turn with the AC on?

If not, then it sounds like my old Tata Indica!

The real piss-off about this particular group is that the MD is one of those "every customer matters" types.

I think Maruti has got an after-sales department. We got so fed up with phoning us to see if we happy every time they did something that we told them not to, and if you say you aren't you very quickly get a call from the dealer about it.

Sorry; they don't do sattelite/cable TV

Outrageous ... go to the newspapers or current affairs media ... these organisations only respond to public shaming.

As well, go into a service centre and make a huge scene - demand to speak to the person in charge and make their life hell ...

for the price of a cheesecake I'm sure there is a certain IM member who will quite happily camp on their doorstep For a beer I'll do it!

Sounds like tataindicom. Seems to be that when it comes to running hotels and making aircon units - they're good. Haven't tried their tea or consultancy services?? Their cars are a lottery (indicar bad, safari good) - but with communications its a case of run for the hills!

How exactly do they charge the 900 and the 300 INR...? is it added on to your bill or some other method?...

Its another typical case of companies focused so much on acquiring and retaining market share that they forget to put in place a good CRM...the end result is that your market share will never really grow like it should because you always have customers leaving you...

Tata has lost Rs.1000 Crore last year on Tata sky. This was because they had heavily subsidized their product to get new customers...

Same with Dish TV, which has lost Rs.400 crore in similar fashion..

Most cable operators have now switched to digital box connections but through cable which is extremely good. The drawback is that unless they give power through the cable, each time there is a power cut (which is frequent in summer) the signals stop. However, I have been with Tata Sky for the last six months without any hassles but like Captain says I have to wait till the first problem surfaces!

no way!!

i dont mind dealing with power cuts. Hats off to the guys who service our area though. Still to have even one so far and even last year they were pretty good with restoring the supply...by good i mean 2-3 hours but far far better than before.

I have an inverter and it hardly made much of a difference to the power bill..maybe 10 %..not more than that..

Its got very little to do with the cost as far as im concerned. The power cuts we face are so small and they tend to occur once in a blue moon that i just dont feel the need to get one...unless ofcourse things change drastically for the worse.

Red face

you are lucky. In karnataka we already have scheduled / unscheduled power cuts and it will worsen as summer progress and till the onset of monsoon.
