Scams and annoyances
Watch out for this one. You are standing with your luggage at a bus or train station. A guy comes over to you and says "Excuse me sir , I saw you drop some money and points to a 100R note lying on the ground" You bend down to pick it up and the second guy picks up one of your bags from behind you and is gone. It has never happened to me but I have met a couple of travellers who have lost things in this way. This is one of the "Divert attention" scams. Stay alert!

scams
I heard of a similar type scam in Guatemala City once. A young kid said, "hey look a wad of notes" and picks up the wad. Then he invites you to go to a quiet area where he'll share them out with you. Once you're there the heavy brigade arrives!!

Nice to hear that these things are "multinational".
I remember a true story from Milano..., Mercedes was packed, family waiting to enter, a small boy comes, pisses against the tyre, the owner/driver jumps out of the car - car gone... |
