Pickpockets at the Golden Temple in Amritsar

Hi all,

I post this thread as a warning to all visiting the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
Whilst queuing in the line to enter the temple my pocket was picket and I lost a significant amount of money.
I reported it immeadiately to the Tourist Information Centre and then the Police. From their reaction it is obvious that this is a common problem.
Whlist I take responsibility for the loss I cannot help but thinking . . . .
Is there no where sacred ?

BEWARE!!!!

very common, have heard enough people whose pockets have been picked while there , sad to hear of your loss , and its a lesson learnt hard but be even more cautious in the future..

Yes, any crowded area will do. Thieves are not religious except Thuggees. Use a money belt and better luck..

Ever since I used to commute on the subway in New York, I always carry my wallet in my front pants pocket. Much safer there than in the back pocket.

Hopefull the Light Fingered Feend will get caught
red handed in the not too distant future and cop the wrath of the Temple guards.

If caught there's a good chance He'll need Police
Protection.

Regretfully, in a country where poverty is high, tourists are often seen as walking ATM's, the answer is no.

There's other threads on where to keep money safe - worth having a read of that one to be better prepared.

Cheers
