quote: "So you're not even sure if you were robbed or if you were just given a friendly ride home?"
![]() It's not only about money Mach, guys can get raped too y'know. I've been groped in India, by Indian guys, four or five times. In the 20 other countries I've been to, and lived in, it's never happened once. I'm neither Homophobic, Gay or anti-India, so really I'm neutral on this matter, but I think it is a problem in that society - probably because their women don't put out. ![]() So do I think there are gay Indians out there who want a bit of stoned white arse - of course there is, and rape is no joke. So he wasn't robbed....... so what? So they dumped him back on his doorstep.... so what? I don't see how this detracts from his story. Even if he wasn't robbed or raped - and they just did it for a laugh - it's still an outrage. quote: "I'm sorry but sounds like me when I've had a few too many," Of course I wasn't there and I don't know this Mr. Dave guy and on my 2 visits to Palolem I never got a spiked drink - but I guess he knows the difference between being off-his-face stoned and tipsy . I feel sorry for the guy, not only did he suffer that, but now when he passes on the warning he gets (in effect) called a liar and/or a fool. I would not have thought too much about this post myself, but I remembered having seen another site where the same thing is reported in Palolem (link provided above) - and Palolem is a SMALL place. Probably no more than 300 buildings. If people keep on complaining about spiked drinks in Palolem, then I think it's rather foolish to turn a blind eye to it. Would I go to Palolem again? YES. Would I order beers from a beach shack there after reading all this? NO! I would have one or two cold beers in the village - - or nine or ten. Cheers! |

What I meant is I'm sure these things happen in general and it's good to have people being aware of it. But one place is being pin-pointed here and I thought I'd put some questions marks with it. You get these cases of thinking at home Whoops I've drank too much, should stop doing that, then abroad thinking Help I've been poisoned. I agree it could well be true, but we just don't know (the OP doesn't seem to be all that sure himself, and rape was never mentioned, although I agree it could be an issue in general again). Having one person call in to confirm it by saying he may know this place and it wasn't kosher for very different reasons four years ago didn't really lend much weight to it in my eyes.
But, yes, I suppose when in Goa or any other place (but certainly the "traveller" hangouts), keep your eyes open, with regards to your cool traveller buddies first and foremost btw. I'm just a little wary of the web being the ideal place for slagging off places crying "scam" (or "fabulous" for that matter) when in truth something else may have been going on. So I guess Quote:

I don't doubt this kind of thing happens, but we're destroying a bar's reputation without any evidence.
My concerns (as a moderator) is that a very clever pink spotted reindeer could have joined indiamike.com and started this thread, or even a rival bar owner.....and guess what, none of us will use this bar now, will we? It was only a few years ago that Goan hotel owners were posing as female tourists and warning people that the owner of a rival hotel kept trying to watch them whilst they were showering, even though it was sometimes obvious what was happening, how many female tourists would have avoided the named hotel? A thing we mods should consider...... All 'first post' adds are banned, maybe this type of first post should also be banned. I will delete this thread if the original poster hasn't replied in the next 24 hours. |

Why. It sound's like he's in Goa now. I'm sure he's having too much fun to check in here everyday! And obviously he's not a regular. Does that make him a liar? And why don't you delete the negative post about the English Rose Bar in Candolim also. Is this a democratic forum of free opinions that don't get deleted until later proved false if that's the case, or is this a forum of what the powers that be agree to permit? |

as it has been mentioned, it is quite possible that it could be a rival business posting this, so some questioning seems to be in order. do you think indiamike could survive with no moderators???

I mean geeeeeez, a 24 hour deadline! What do you expect Mr. Dave to say even if he does come back here: "No, please please, it's true!" - I mean, the guy spoke up and did his bit. He had a bad story and he shared it. What more do you want from the dude? Drugging and robbing is a traditional scam in India.
Reading Mr. Dave's post, it just doesn't "feel" as if it's written by an Indian. He comes over as a Westerner. Plus, If it is some plot by rival owners, I think they would have done a better job: ie, spiced it up a bit with robbery or violence - or something, not just left a big blank. On the one hand - this might be a ploy by a rival bar (and I really doubt that) or on the other hand, it might be a really important warning - like, REALLY IMPORTANT! I think you should keep the warning just in case. quote - "Is this a democratic forum of free opinions that don't get deleted until later proved false if that's the case, or is this a forum of what the powers that be agree to permit?" Well, Ananda, if it's their bat and ball, they can play any way they like, but I also think they are giving Mr. Dave a hard time. Just an after thought... Maybe they didn't rob him because he wasn't wearing a money belt, and the small amount of cash in his wallet wasn't worth the hassle, they perhaps returned to his room to get his cash, but they were seen, so just left him and departed. Either that, or it was rape, or a sick joke on a foreigner. It's all guess work I know - but I think the story sounds OK. |
