Palolem bar

I have been a avid reader for some months. I have decided to join to express my concerns about somthing that happend the other night in a bar called The ******** which is located in Palolem and open 24/7. I was unwinding with a few beers and enjoying the company and friendliness of the staff. I had about seven small kings beers and a small shot of honey bee rum and started to feel unusually intoxicated which was surprising considering I have indulged and drank more in other bars and beech huts here in Palolem. I ask for the bill and paid and thought nothing of it. Thats when my memory go's blarry and I can't remember how I got bact to my accommodation. It was the observant guest house owner who informed me two days later I arrived back very intoxicated and with sombody in a car who dropped me off at 10pm. He was telling me two people stoping at the guest house up the road was brought back very intoxicated by the poilce after drinking at the same bar and be careful as they had suspicions of the staff drugging peoples drinks and taking money out their wallets. I can't be to sure if I lost any money as I can't remember how much I had on me at the time. Just want to warn people be careful when drinking at empty bars alone.

Is the ******** the place with the pool table on the left side of the road before you make the left turn that goes to the beach. I'm pretty sure thats the name of the place, if I recall.
If so, Their a bunch of bastards. I know a dutch girl who was the girlfriend of the guy their and they were going to make a restaurant together. She spent $5000 on furniture and stuff to open this place and they screwed her and took the restaurant from her. If this is the same place, all the stuff there was paid for by her. Don't ever patronize that place. Somebody should kick the out of them!!!!!!!

This all happened 4 years ago BTW.

Definately something very bad going down in Palolem, this is from a year ago:

http://mixeye.com/viewpoint.php?vid=24

I first visited Palolem in May 1999, and the number of foreigners there could be counted on the fingers of one hand. It was a truly AMAZING place, the most beautiful place I had seen - (and I've spent years in South America and Australia, so I know what a tropical beach is supposed to look like)

so I went back there in 2004 and found about a thousand foreign tourists plus another thousand Indian tourists and a blue plastic shanty town overlooking the beach. It got screwed up in just 5 years, but I must confess that I hung around for a good ten days - so it couldn't have been all bad.

Thanks for the precautinary note for the fellow travellers. As precaution is always better than cure.

I always love havin a drink by myself, so you can never know when you'll be drugged. But as Mr. Dave said, be careful of the establishment first, and then your surroundings int hat establishment. I work in a pub/club in Sydney, and have seen a fair bit of women (and some men) being drugged, and therefore either being molested, assaulted, or robbed. Sometimes you can't help it, but yeah, always drink with at least one other person in an unfamiliar place, and make sure they make the drinks infront of you, like what all bartenders are supposed to do.

Have you been accustomed to drinking anywhere else than Palolem before? Drinks may go very different on you depending on the occasion.

I'm sorry but sounds like me when I've had a few too many, there's little to say about how much it takes. At least someone drove you home, I've had worse cause for complaint.

So you're not even sure if you were robbed or if you were just given a friendly ride home?

But she was his girlfriend? Maybe some relationship difficulties were at stake?

Ahh... I see.

Look, I don't mind the occasional warning against drugging episodes that can happen all over the world, or rather I think that's a good idea, but I remain unconvinced that anything really happened here. If it did, it's a nasty story. I suggest the scams forum remain reserved for cases where it's more or less clear though. There are plenty of people going to Goa and elsewhere who can't handle their intake I'm sure, I see no reason to slag off a certain place over it here, affecting people who possibly have no defense because they have better things to do than to follow such boards, such as running a bar, or maybe they don't have a computer even let alone a web connection.

Good piece of putting-in-perspective there.

I know someone who came back in La Guaira, Venezuela in just a hotel bath towel, but thats another story.

Seriously, did a scam take place here? Seems odd they would drop him back, and that too with at least some money, if it was one.

Exactly Capt. When was the last time you were drugged and robbed and generally maltreated then kindly delivered at your doorstep at 10 PM. I mean crikey, shouldn't the night begin at that time. You thought I was talkative, don't get me started.

The first post could easily be the rival bar across the road trying to destroy the reputation of the ********, maybe even the bar that took the Dutch girl's money.

My worry is that we've taken the word of someone we don't know, after all, anyone can become a member, but the 2nd post, from a respected member seems to confirm the suspicions about the ******** EVEN THOUGH the poster isn't sure it's the right place.

Erm Ananda's story isn't too unbelievable to me. There's been a string of foreigners who have lost their shirt in exactly the same way in Palolem.
A rather popular and very well known resort was built in the same fashion, by ripping off tourists and we're not talking small amounts here!! So beware, when you think about setting up business with a partner in Palolem not EVERYONE is honest!!
