Moderator Note...
I've removed a couple of paragraphs here because they are leading to the thread becoming about USA and its politics, not about India and the problems women face there. If anyone wants to know what Lotus Blossom was quoting they can follow her link, and if they wish to discuss it, the Off Topic forum is at their disposal. I am not suggesting that we can discuss any culture in isolation, but in this thread the mods will exercise control to keep the thread close to the topic; which is not USA-bashing or USA-defending.

Great link to the article, LB. Loved it.

Who the hell is Brandon "Greasy Bear" Davis?

as Al Gore said the other day when he visited my town (I'm paraphrasing here), who cares about global warming when we're numbed by all the news about Britney, Paris, and Ms. Lohan?

Yup, opiate for the masses...but some of us don't wanna drink the kool-aid....

Kindly keep the thread somewhat on-topic (general sidesteps and free associations of the kind IM is renowned for nothwithstanding) & generally play nice, OK? See also this site's forum rules.

I've noticed a couple of incidents in the UK news over the past few months of women being found guilty of false accusations of rape.

Whatever the law, it will be abused.

I've certainly read concerns that both the domestic violence law and dowry law are regularly used to harass and blackmail men. It may well be that the laws have been badly framed and maybe badly implemented.

That has got nothing to do with unacceptable behaviour on the street.

Mod note:

Very intelligent thread on the subject it seems. As it appears to draw unwanted attention from a persistent few and most sides seem to have been covered however, this thread is closed.
