my friend has been robbed.. im worried

Hi

Yesterday I chat for a few minutes with a friend, and she told me that she was robbed, i think that in jahlpur. I only know that some girl started to say her that she was going to call the police for kidnaping, and then 3 men robbed her money. Im worried about her, i dont know how much they took or if there was some violence involved.

Somebody has hear about this? She said that she was fine, that some other indian guy helped her after that, but then the conexion failed, and cannot contact with her. Is that kind of rob common in india? How does it happen?

Many thanks

I would say that kind of robbery probably ISN"T common but nonetheless it seems to have happened to your friend!!

Try and re=establish dialogue with your friend if not a call to your embassy in India might be a good idea!!
They carry more autority than individuals and might get the police to sit up and notice a bit quicker!!

Recently a Gwerman lady who suffered a crime benefitted from exactly this!!
First though try and find out the current situation from your friend...If possibel!1
The chances are that some good samaritan from India has helped her out as she says but try and establish the details!!

If not, phone the embassy and get them to follow it up!

Hi.

I still dont have news about my friend, but i want to think that she is ok and now forgot about that rob and travelling around. I have been looking for information about this kind of rob, but didnt find any,. We speak different languages so it would be difficult to call her embassy, and i dont even now where is she now. So im going to wait a bit and try to not to get too much worried about it.

Im going to india to meet her on the end of april, so this kind of thing freaks me out a bit. Thanks for the reply, this website is so useful for gathering info about india, specially for a first timer..

tourist spots all over the world are usually full of scam artists. India is no different. Does your friend speak english? I think tourists who don't speak/understand english are especially vulnerable. I would strongly recommend using a guided tour to minimize the risks.

Dear cantare,
U have mentioned the place as "jahlpur"... as I can not identify the name with any place that I know of I assume it is Jaipur. If she has lost some money & not everything she had it is better to forget the incident & move on... going to cops will only complicate matters.... I didnot understand the kidnaping part... if u get connected to ur friend please find out exactly what happened & then post the info for other travellers.
Good luck.

hi

I think that the name of the city is jhodpur, or jaipur, not sure about that.

What she told me is that she knew an indian girl. Dont know what happened after that, but the indian girl threat her with telling the police that she was kidnapped by my friend. I think that in some moment the other 3 men got in to get the money.

EDIT. I got a message from her, saying that she is fine. I will tell you more about the rob as soon i have more news from her.

thanks
