Mumbai airport immigration desk scam
Immigration officers at mumbai airport refused to let us (Indian nationals ) enter the country, on the pretext that the last time we had left India, our departure stamps were not in the current passport, and we were not carrying the old passports that expired three yrs ago. Then they lowered their voices and asked for a bribe. $200 each. all i had was $20. so a couple hours went by, after which they accepted those 20 dollars and waved us on.
One officer mentioned how can they all share $20. |

I hope you got personal information for these scammers (I'm assuming they were wearing some sort of badges or had some sort of ID) so that you can report them to the government.

If it's not a scam, then why was the fine lowered from $200 to $20? The OP also mentioned that she heard the officials discussing splitting the $$$ amongst themselves.

All relevant information is stored on the Government data base, on your passport file, including that from your previous passport - and the date of issue of the new one.
Still - it's probably not worth complaining officially - it'd be just too easy to insert a note on your computer file which could cause you delays every time to cross an Immigration Point. |

Mumbai officers are worst..
They even steal chocolates..they are damn buggers.. When I came via Mumbai airport to chennai last time from Chicago, I had huge amount of chocolates and one of the bag's side zip was not locked.
It had 3 packets of stuffed chocolates and all were present during the frankfurt transit. By the time,I got baggages from mumbai, they were gone.. Sriram.B |
