Kerala

Anybody got anything to say about any scams/annoyances in Kerala?
On a more positive note; any recommendations about what to do there for a month over the new year. Thanks! Any ideas about avoiding the LP cliche trap that is places that are NOT in Lonely Planet.
And I am not spending 50 bucks to buy it just to avoid the things it recommends. Thanks fellow India fanatics.

Only that, away from the touts and salesmen and expensive drivers of the heavily touristy areas like Kovalam, you probably won't find too many.

Pretty decent place, mostly, Kerala

At Munnar the Chinnar NP treehouses are a rort, as is the entry fee to Eravikulam NP (you get to walk on about 500-700m of road with zookeepers prodding a few goats for R250 or so). Just walking around Munnar is miles better, though the drive from Eravikulam to Chinnar was cool. Fort Kochi restaurants can be a rip off. But Kerala was definitely the most tourist friendly state we went to in India, but after the other parts of India, that was quite a let down.
