Indians are out to get everything you own - bleed you dry. and they are very good@it

Hi,

These are not my words, but the words of someone i know that went to India in the sixties. He kind of shocked me and i don't know whether to believe him or not, but then i tend to be an optimist not a pessimist or realist...

Here are some choice quotes from him:

"they tend to steal whatever they can from westerners ... like in Bihar ... very dangerous... especially when they see nice cameras ..." (i was intending on taking an expensive camera - i'm seriously thinking twice about it now)

"it's enough money to survive a long time for their whole familly ! that's all they see, and it's difficult to blame them !"

"if they want the camera they can have it they'll do anything to get as much as they can from you ... and they're bloody good at it ... travel light ... don't take anything of real value with you ... the best is to buy everything on the spot it's so cheap ... and low quality ..."

"you haven't got a single chance to avoid being stolen in India"

"unless you're used to travel a lot !"

"and know how to kick them when needed , which i wouldn't advise you !!!"

What are people's thoughts on this - is there truth in what he said? I'm still going to India, its been my plan for the past few years butthis guy hasn't painted a very nice picture!

It is a different culture from what in the west we are used to. for a start ,the number of people , a billion +now???they are everywhere in great numbers!!! the first thing notice when you arrive back in your comfortable niche is "where is everybody" the streets are empty ,it is all so well organised ,everything works!!! The way of conducting buisness is different . You have a group of peaple moving around with anough loose change in there pocket to keep someone alive six months. Therefore you are more of a target. As you are a long way from your niche you will feel less comfident? less secure , more of a target? You have just got off the plane / train/ boat ,new in town you ain't got a clue ,more of a target !!
Don't forget that a lot of things tend to even out , so once you have paid your taxes for being fresh of the boat /plane etc you start to see the good things . Enjoy

It can happen in any country. Best way to avoid it, if it does worry you... just don't attract attention.. and try having a serious look on your face.

Who stole more?

I'm left to wonder:

How much did the British stole from India in the 200+ years of occupation?
Does it come to 1% of 1% of what the Indian burglars stole from tourists?
Well, we being the 3rd world is still not 'developed' enough to match the stealing talents of the British.

Suff get stolen. From Hotels, Houses& offices. Not only in India, all over the world. The burgalrs and dacoits steal & loot more from Indians than from Foreign tourists(per capita). This is a sad reality that is the out come of economic and social inequality.

Rascism begets rascism. Just do not squeal when it boomerangs.
