Good to know you're already feeling better Vasko. I once lost a brand new pair of shoes while travelling to Bangalore at about the same time in the morning. I was half awake and couldn't believe how quickly they vanished before my eyes. Have been paranoid about my belingings while travelling ever since.

Forgive me for writing on this a second time, but I was interested, Vasco, in how you started off your new diary by pasting in the police report. Here's a prediction for you: weeks from now, when you're back home and the bad memories have been supplanted by all the GREAT things you will see and experience in India, your story of how you were robbed (and the aftermath, including your report on this site) will be the one you will recount most often, and the one that will keep your audiences enthralled. You'll pass the police report around like a badge of honour. All of the events of the last few hours will gradually become the part of the trip you will remember with the most pleasure. Just wait and see if I'm right!

How true, Jarman. I was robbed in Spain about 20 years ago and am still dining out on the story!

Bad deal. ![]() But it's great that you're not posting "India full of Thieves" or any such rot like that. ![]() It's great to have stories to dine out on, but, on balance, I think life is better without them ![]()

Vasko, sorry to hear your story. I don't expect the people responsible are any happier than they were before they robbed you, if only they realised it. No point going over the past though. As a wise man once told me, if someone steals from you, imagine that you have given it to them as a gift. hope you enjoy your dinner out tonight. I'll be in Mumbai on Sunday so if you fancy meeting up... Moga

I think you should still be happy that you didnt loose the checks, pasport etc, I think that is what REALLY hurts... The big fear so to say... Anyhow, its just money, you will get new money and new stuff. Things just happen thats all.... ![]()

I'm very sorry about you havingyour bag stollen, but you are certainly dealing with it very philosophically, and i guess after the immeasurable loss of life and property of the infamous Tsuanmi, it certainly puts alot of our other problems into perspective! As you mentioned you are considering heading up north at some point, i just thought i'd mention that HH The Dalai Lama will be giving publc teachings (free to attend but you need to register before hand) in Mc.Leod Ganj, HP from Feb 23rd-9th March. its pretty cold there right now though but am hoping it will have warmed up by then! Take care & keep well, TDK.

Just to continue up on this... I've been back home for a week now and the other day I had to go and file a report at the police station in order to get a new driver's license card. It was the perfect opportunity to observe the differences in behavior between the police at Victoria Terminus and my little home town. Here everything is computerised, so the police officer filled out an electronic form based on my answers. A bit different from writing it out word for word as dictated by the officer! In Bombay the police didn't say a word about searching for or finding the bag; here the officer said they wouldn't send anyone looking for it and it was highly unlikely that the bag would ever return to me. No kidding. ![]()

How great to see this old thread come up again! Am I right about the unhappy memory gradually being supplanted by the excitement of the whole incident?

Hi Jarman, Sure the whole episode is now just one of those crazy Indian travel things. Besides, my brother was kind enough to give me a new 20 GB iPod to replace the lost 4 GB one, so I actually lucked out in a way!

| Where is "back home"? Sorry it's hard to reconcile your post without that context. You could be be an Indian domestic traveller for all we know, except - perhaps - for the spelling of "license". I don't understand why ppl can't complete their location field appropriately. Is it paranoia?
