I agree no one bothers about Delhi I love the city it has so much to offer people sit in guest houses and hotels complaining about pollution ect when all they have to do is take a 30 min journey to Humanyans tomb or the minor for peace and quiet around beautiful monuments last time I was in Delhi which was mid jan we popped in to Humanyans tomb and it was empty...pure bliss

goa - north/south/east/west
kerela - well, perhaps will visit only wynaad.

i see kolkata aint on anybody's list
and it dont even have them plethora of historical monuments to be validated as a regular touristy kinda haunt!

personally, i enjoy mumbai - for me its kolkata on a much more mammoth scale.
the city has soul - its about the workforce - the person on the street. truly cosmopolitan - nobody cares which part of india one is from.
its also gotto be one of the safest cities in the country... [ oh for crying out loud - of course there are murders etc etc etc ] but which other city in india would i dare return home at 2-3am, find transport aplenty, not pay a dime more, and reach home safe and sound.

roadside food is to die for.
it deserves a twice over from any tourist...

[ you think they should build a smaller statue of me next to shivaji, eating bhel??? ]

haven't been there for 16 years but: rishikesh was the pits.
...filthy, huge, stinking lorries thundering through town and hundreds of westerners dressed in orange trying to look holy
the only good thing about it was the amazing lassi shop near the ghats

also auroville - horrible place full of unfriendly, miserable people

did care much for manali either but that's a long and quite disturbing story!

places i loved (that others hated); mysore, dharamsala, pushkar, arambol (this was 15 years ago tho!) .. i quite like delhi too

i agree..

Have you ever said that? Have you decided to not visit a particular place again.
We've all got & have read about everyones favourite place in India, But what about your least favourite, Why?, what makes it so.
For me reluctantly it's got to be North Goa. sorry to all present & future Goa lovers, I used to love the place too. I've been back several times in recent years on I guess a wave of nostalgia., but really it's beauty is getting so so spoilt these days, plastic bottle mountains & litter everywhere. English pubs, kareoke nights, tourists who fly in for a couple of weeks and don't give a toss for anything apart from a suntan etc, You know what I'm saying.
So I guess that particular destination's been put in the archives for me.

So, We all share our favorite places, but whats your least favourite place and why,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,[/quote]

sounds like what i have been told about harambul. made me sad. i had a lovely month there, one year, before the annual invasion in december

The Only place I've been in India, so far, where the people looked miserable was Ooty.

Just like London on a cold and wet day!

very hair raising description. enjoyed it.

Yes, thankyou singsub(and blackbird).

Crossing the road in India really freaks me out. I'm a very nervous pedestrian (might have something to do with being run over by a car when I was 7). Mr Hongkonger has to literally drag me across the road, I cling on to him for dear life and do actually scream out loud (Noooooooo! or Aaaaaagh!) as I perceive a truck hurtling towards me. Luckily, there's so much noise and mayhem around me that no one else notices this middle-aged white women having a meltdown among the autorickshaws, buses, taxes, Ambassadors, ox carts and motorbikes, all piled high with people and goods.

20 years ago, I was in Bangalore on my own. Without my personal crossing patrol man, I couldn't deal with the traffic ... hated it so much, I got the first bus out of there the next morning. The bus station was close by, but I got an autotrickshaw anyway, so I didn't have to cross the road.
