Question Help Please!! - Train or Plane Mumbai to Trivandrum

I need some help

My friend is trying to organise coming to visit in December but is struggling to book an internal flight online as make my trip want a postal address for collection of tickets - she is trying to get a flight back to Mumbai from Trivandrum on 16th December to get home for Christmas, but is having to use the flight auction as it is such a busy time of year. Also she cannot afford to pay the full fare quoted by Jet/India of 400 USD

So, any suggestions, in particular is there a fast train to Mumbai fromTrivandrum she could get instead???

Many thanks, she's getting herself in a right knot and has been told by a travel agent that they cannot book internal flights for her in India from Bangkok and clearly she doesn't want to risk leaving it until she gets here to arrange her flight home.

I'll be eternally grateful

Indian Airlines' website quotes $150 for that date and that route for foreign/NRI.

They recently cut their rates; I thought $400 sounded way too high. I am flying almost that route in the opposite direction in January; Kingfisher is quoting about $150 from Mumbai to Cochin, and Indian Air is quoting $135.

Thanks folks

I think she's tempted to go for the train but only because of difficulties with picking up tickets. Is it possible to do an online booking with Indian Airlines or MakeMyTrip and pick the tickets up at Mumbai airport? How reliable is it as I know she is most concerned not to miss her flight home to the UK on 16th,

cheers

I booked an eticket online through Indian Airlines' website -- no paper ticket pickup necessary. You just show a piece of paper with your PNR number and your ID, and you're set... (actually, check the site for the requirements of what you need to show).

On the other hand, when I booked a different Indian Airlines ticket over the phone, I had to fax my credit card information to a U.S. office. Then they offered to courier the ticket to me (for an extra fee). As it happens, the local office is a few miles from my house, so I'm going to pick it up myself.

Went by train from Mumbai to Cochin and it was hell on earth! Tell her to go for the plane its def worth the money that is if she doesnt enjoy a filthy toilet in the train and coakroaches roaming all over her when she will try to sleep! The journey is very long and usually trains are always delayed around here so it is not worth saving money on this one!

My rough guess is that this traveller is back in the UK by now.

Did you go 3-tier or 2-tier AC or what?
