Going to Ajunta?
Just a little warning about the rickshaw wallah who has his beat at the T intersection where the local buses drop you off for the ajunta caves. He speaks good english and is not pushy really but tells you that the bus won't come for hours and he can take you to the next town for 40 rupees (2kms) where there are buses all the time at the big bus stop. Along with offering a hotel room there of course. Just as I almost believed him and was gonna share a ride for 20 which is still a bit rich, the local bus came along and picked me up no worries, even as i walked away he was saying it wasn't going to Jalgaon.. But it was and did for 38 rupees, and didn't stop at that bus stop at that next town of his (Fardepur)...

we scored a great ride at that junction. waiting for the bus, some dude drove past in his car and offered us a ride to aurangabad for 100 rupees.
i think i gave him 200 in the end as a gesture of good will, he made a big song and dance about not worshipping the rupee and was scathing of share jeep drivers who we passed with people hanging off the rear tailgate. the locals are well across the whole issue of getting back to base from ajanta and if you wait at the junction you will get offers, if not the bus. |
