Great thread, without doubt. That is more than i can say about the main character of this story. The posts gripped me more that an Alistair Maclean novel. Just the right amount of suspense, doubt, romance, and ambigious conclusions.

Look at the amazing coincidences here. Almost God made, or Guru made.
Of course, it cannot be considered that some of the personal details were picked up from the Passport by the desk clerk, passed on to the rickshaw wallah, or communicated via telephone to the protagonist, when he ferrets out the info about where they are staying casually. Or better still, the obliging rickshaw wallah informs him.
It would be downright rude on our part to even hint that this is a scam. When it is obvious that he has the milk of human kindness in ample supply, and though he cannot be bothered with the suspicious tourists, he sacrifices his time, energy and mental peace to attend to a needy person.
Why should one raisie an eyebrow, when one reads that most of the "troubled souls" have either the neck or heart chakra as the main impediment in their journey ( of life). Lucky that there are practical and available solutions to cure such issues by wearing a pendant, ring and such. Bit difficult if the problem was identified as a chackra further down the human anatomy. But, as i said, the Gods are with us.
Nick-H is being unduly suspicious of the one-post-wonders. Maybe a course of Carnatic music, once a day, for a week would make him realise that we have a winner on our hands. Or should that be our forum?

Learn, Nick, learn.

And Nick, while i am at it, maybe you should learn how to write a proper post, with a heading and all, as these o-p-w have learnt so quickly. And which incidentally, i am also trying. And let us have the grace to accept that bad punctuation need not necessarily mean bad communication.
As i said, i found their stories gripping. Pun intended?

Don't know if I experienced the same guy twice in 1998, but was taken to a place that you took off your shoes and entered a long dark hallway to a small room on the right of the hallway with only a table with a few gems. Very odd I thought. And there were maybe 3 other indians there and then some kid starts dancing to music and the Indians are all smiling like it's a great show and I'm like wtf. Trying to butter me up and calm me down to think these people are freindly and nice so I'll unload a bunch of cash on them. Sorry wasn't born yesterday. But he didn't try to analize me. They were talking about taking gems back to my country and selling them for profit. Wasn't interested so I eventually left. There was a big sign in my hotel warning against gem scams and not to give your credit card # to anyone so I was prepared. But I'm not stupid and wouldn't have believed it anyways. But I left Jaipur and went to Bundi for 2 weeks when I discovered my plane passes(free passes as my sister worked for United) weren't in my pouch. Frantically looking to no avail I got back to Jaipur and went to my hotel and asked about them, even accusing the owner of taking them. Looked all over and no passes. He then sent the boy working there to go outside and look in the empty lot where they throw their trash and the boy found them there. Gave the boy a reward. Them met someone while there and they gave me a ride on their motorcycle and we ended up at the same Gem guy as before. I went in for the hell of it with no intention of buying. Then some traveler girl from Europe comes in like shes buying stuff. I felt like shes part of the scam and she felt my energy and had a nervous look on her face. Left soon after. I'm pretty sure she was part of the act, maybe in a relationship with the dealer or a junkie looking for a way to stay in India and get a percentage.

But I did meet a nice gypsy in Jaipur who sold marionettes on the street who took me to his tent on the streets of Jaipur and eventually gave me a marionette for free to give to my daughter. And I never gave him any money.

You Mean I Should Stop After A Week?

Only once a day for only a week? Damn, if I hadn't had to take a few days off for a severe eye infection, I would have been on serious overdose by now!

Oh, and the gypsy who gave me the free marionette, I did offer him money when he gave it to me but he insisted on giving it to me for free.

And that gem place I mentioned didn't have a sign outside and was in a part of town where tourist don't go, so if I needed to go to the police I would never be able to find it again. I'm sure they know this.

These days, take phone from pocket, open Google maps, go to 'my timeline' and find out where you were! I wonder if the scammers know that
