Thumbs down fake cops/police/the old bill on train...

Hi all and good to be back on here.....wow bit different.
I was travelling from Vasco Goa to Hampi and this happened. Please be careful and don't get ripped off bu these bad people.

I moved carridge on the train to change my view. A man in the new compartment was beating a boy and holdng him on the ground. I got involved and ask to see his ID as a lady told me he was the police. It was a scam and a rather nasty one that left me in tears. The police in India do not go onto the trains (so the police in Bangalore told me, I went to show them the film and report the badnesss) and these men were fakes and the children were being used as a very nasty evil act. People had cash and goods removed and I lost a little of my soulwhich was replaced today by a man from Tibet so just watch out and remember it is nice to be nice x

I'm not sure I understand what was happening or who was demanding what from whom? There are so many levels/variations of "public trials" that may or may not involve pugalistic punishment that it is usually best to let the natives decide the course of events ..... either that or get a bucket of train toilet water and through it over the combatants ... that ought to stop the ruckus in a hurry.

The police(scammers) wanted money from me to get the boy, out of his fat belly beating trip and then took some other trvellers smokes off them...i just went full power Newcastle lass and that seemed to do the trick oh and I wept. They had all the chai sellers and beggers rounded up and it was grim. Hey good for my PMT though!

Good for you for having got involved in what sounds like a pretty scary situation and won the day!

But policemen do go on trains: they are regularly to be seen, at least in the AC classes...

I think the railways have their own police, the Railway Protection Force or something like that. (I'm maybe getting the name muddled up with the Border Protection Force)

Policemen take free rides in Buses and trains,so policeman in the bus/train is not so uncommon.

There's a myriad of scams and you can't get too excited relative to so much worse going on. One such uniform came on the train and demanded to search my luggage. I pulled out home ministry letterhead and told him he would be transferred to a crossing guard. He vanished. Always collect letterhead. Some of mine is old so I should write some more inane questions to generate more..

I was a bit flakey after six weeks in Goa, but this was a eye opener to my own greeness and the fab actors we have in this world. I lost no money but I will get some letterheads.

I apologize for being a little thick on this .... but who was beating the boy? The fake Policeman!? If so who was collecting/demanding money/cigarettes and for what purpose? The lady? Or was the policeman saying I'll hit this kid one more time if you don't give me siggies & rupees - now? How many people were involved in the scam? The whole car(did anybody ever see that Movie The SilverStreak with Gene Wilder - kinda reminds me of a few scenes in that flic)? Was nobody else around at the time - anytime I've travelled on an Indian train you can't scratch or twitch without somebody advising/helping you out. What film? Did they actually allow you to set up video and film the beating?

Sorry for the plethora of questions but I'm still trying to picture the whole scenario. Good God - glad you made it off the train in one piece!

Sometimes, you need a uniquely Indian solution to a uniquely Indian problem. :-)
