Entrance Fees & Extra Charges
Entrance Fees & Extra Charges.
Does anyone have uptodate information for the latest charges to various monuments, temples & special places of Interest? Also the current opening times/days for the Taj. And the extra charges you're asked to pay to take photographs at various places. And any other useful information along these lines,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, |

Have a look at the Archaeological Survey of India website . It lists the opening times of the major monuments and entrance prices.
I think these are up to date, but I haven't visited any of these sites since the prices were hiked a couple of years ago. For the Taj Mahal you will have to add another 500 rupees tax per person, which is levied by Agra Council. Not sure about camera charges in addition to entrance fee. |

Use of video cameras is only permitted at the platform just beyond the entrance and there is a charge to use them, Cameras are free but cannot be used inside the tomb. There are many `official` photographers and the quality of their photographs is good, and prints are available within the hour expect to pay about 100 rupees per picture The Taj is closed on Fridays. Opening times are 6am to 7.30pm, go early if you can to avoid the crowds, entrance costs 750 rupees. ------------ I think that the Taj is now also open on some evenings! Most other entrance fees I've found so far are 10Rps Indians, US$5 everyone else. Camera tax seems to be sometimes what either you or they can get away with,,,,,,,, |

Last winter, it cost me Rs100 to see The Residency in Lucknow; I think the Indians paid Rs10.
No additional camera fees -- or did I just ignore them? I truly don't remember seeing a notice about them! I believe I only paid Rs100 in Hyderabad to see Golconda. |

I believe the evening opening is still tied up in the courts. However, that could change..

If you are not of Indian origin - the charge is 10-25 times what Indians pay

Even the NRI's holding Indian passports are charged tourist rates. One of my Indian friends and his family from Hong Kong paid Indian rates at the Taj but were later followed and hassled to pay the difference.
